ANNOUNCEMENT Lavecon 2019 Content Reveal

Imho the whole free arx points thing won't be something we should be to exited about.
I think they'll just be dripping into your account, just enough to make people sensitive for such thing to stimulate them in buying more so they get a paint with a little discount.
Sure, they're free but it won't be more then a nickel on a dollar.

They're not just gonna hand out store items to you every other week or so.

I've bought a good share of items but I won't spend a nickel anymore untill they do some proper bug fixing.

I think you're wrong. If the in-game Arx accumulation is like other games, then we may well earn enough to buy something every couple/few weeks. Maybe not the most expensive items (ship kits, exotic paint jobs), but a bobblehead, lighting effect, etc sure.

As an example, that's exactly how Fortnite works - you can purchase bundles of V-bucks for cash, or you can earn them in-game - and the rate of in-game accumulation has meant that I bought my son one Battlepass, three(?) years ago for 8.99£ and he has earned enough V-bucks in-game since then to buy another Battlepass for every 10 week season since then, and buy a few other bits with his leftovers. Sure, to buy one of the really expensive rare skins he'd need to save his leftover in-game V-bucks for a year, but he's happy with what he has, spends no money at all on the game, and is learning not to fall for what is basically a low level promotional gambit. If my 12 year old son can resist being stimulated into buying stuff he doesn't really need/want, I hope the adults playing ED can too.

They’re probably holding something back - I’m still hoping full keyboard support for consoles will be added.

Actually that's not how that works, you are deliberately mistaking the facts. In Fortnite the only way to get free V-bucks is to buy a battle pass, with real money to get V-bucks to buy the battle pass. That battle pass then has a few spots to earn a hundred v-bucks but nothing amazing and not able to buy the new battle pass for next season (which this current season was just given out free for having the last seasons btw). And almost all of the battle pass skins are mediocre in comparison to the purchased ones like John Wick. Only really the Hybrid, the Ice King, and The Prisoner are any decent in-game earned (via battle pass and then tedious grinding of exp).

You do not earn enough Vbucks in a battle pass to buy the next battle pass. Let alone have "leftovers" after. Your son is either getting Vbucks elsewhere or using your card without you realizing it. Sorry to inform you of this.

And as predicted, Lavecon was a letdown. Carriers which should have already been in-game but the solo pilots will likely never afford, and a transaction shop for more in-game purchases. Gotta get that cash...

Is it that bad that a multiplayer focused feature can't be bought solo?
Though I hope there will be some kind of interactions available for "non-squaded" solo players: allowed to board some, NPC carriers...

Where is that coming from? fdev haven't said you can't have a carrier for yourself AFAIK - just create a 1 person squadron - simple. Probably will be difficult to afford to make it jump, but hey - personal journey (just not a very fast personal journey if you do it in a carrier on your own :) )

What a pleasant surprise from FD!
Fleet Carriers?!?! It this year??? For free???
Sadly there is not much to talk about, but damm I was sure we will see them in "New Era"... I hope their realization will be something more then just stations that can move...

Other changes... well, they are small, but it is nice that I will be able to bay paint jobs individually.
Just dont go P2W direction dear FD's! Simply don't... and we all gona be good)))

Nope. I am right - you can earn more than enough V-bucks for a Battlepass every season.

I am looking at my sons account right now to confirm this and...

Tier 4 (100), 11 (200), 18 (100), 27 (100), 34 (200), 42 (100), 51 (100), 58, (100), 67 (100), 76 (100), 83 (100), 91 (100). For a total of 1400 V-bucks per season. More than enough for the next season's Battlepass. He has 1800 V-bucks in his account with 100 more to earn at Tier 91. Now, given that each Battlepass costs between 950 and 1200 (or occassionally as a freebee for having bought the previous, for free with earned V-bucks) he'll have at least 600 V-bucks left over. In the store today... dance/taunt emotes for 200 - 500, harvesting axe for 500, weapon skins for 500 - 700 and premium skins for 1200 - 2000. So, actually exactly as I posted - enough to rebuy the Battlepass, and buy a small bit or save for a long time for a premium item.

So, again, we've bought him 1 Battlepass and earned all the rest by playing. Over a peroid of years. He's got over 40 skins, couple dozen dance/taunts, etc. He's happy with the skins he has (he really wants the new Stranger Things demigorgon, but that'll pass). As for grinding exp... he finishes the weekly challenges the day they are released. There's no grind for him.

I have 20 weeks (yes complete weeks lol) of playtime. Will that get me anything or do we have to earn them as we play AFTER the update

I asking same question to myself... I will be glad to receive 1 free paint job just for my 4k+ hours in the game))) A specially some exclusive one...

FD announce no major updates until the big 2020 update.

People say they are dissaponted that the next update will not be a big one.

Do people not listen to what FD tell them? Are these the same people who say FD should listen to them and that FD don't speak to us?

So, reading all this, I am right in thinking that the next update is September and then one in December, so every 4 months, with the next major update 2020. Was expecting one around May/June, but looks like September

TL: DR - I'm not Frontier's target customer
Neither am I sadly :(
but i still hope in time FD will throw me and those like me a bone. There is for me still a lot to like about the game, and personally i thought some of the stuff in the reveal sounds good.

(btw something i have not mentioned... i am really glad existing commanders can experience the intro to the game they are making, i will definitely give that a go if it is half as good as the voiced training missions we already have. I am glad we wont be expected to wipe our commander to see it.

When was the last time Frontier made you pay for the game though? Pay to Win in MMO's is BAD GAME DESIGN.
like i said it is not a model i would like FD use for ED..... but i would argue WarFrame is not an MMO either, it is a co-op PvE game...... and i think this is where 1 bone of contention is with Elite....
I think back to an early doors interiview with DB where he said he did NOT consider ED to be an MMO in the usual sense and that it would not have the features that most associate with an MMO. This to me was a huge boon and something which i was so please with at the time.

however since then it seems most of the stand out features which FD have added have been totally at ods with that statement. Ships Crew, Wingmates and now i am guessing Executive control ships are now all being implemented as multiplayer only features and a far cry from how these features were presented at the start (admitedly the executive control ships was not really outlined one way or the other)

But as i dont play ED as an MMO, i play it mostly as a either solo PvE game OR a social with a handful of friends multiplayer game. I am not competitve in direct MP at all and the BGS you really do not need a super "end game" ship for anyway. I am totally not worried that FD will implement anything I personally would consider P2W. For the players who like to play in Open and like a bit of competetive PvP it is more of an issue i guess.

(but then other people accuse FD of already doing that by implementing horizons..... but to me that is not what i consider P2W even if it probably is in a literal sense - pay money to buy horizons to get access to better gear. If FD didnt do that it would mean we could never have shiny new things in an expansion which is a bit dull imo)

Exactly what I'm trying to explain to some of these gullible sods.

Everyone here thinks Frontier is a soddin' charity all of the sudden.
No one thinks its wierd we got practically 0 Content reveal.
We a full FAQ on what some Premium currency will be.

I dont think insulting people (regardless of which side of the coin your opinion is) is helpful to be honest.

you may be right and any in game earnings may be so miniscule as to be essentally pointless...... or you may be wrong, but i think it is only fair to suck it and see 1st. it has the potential to be great, and the potential to be rubbish. We cant know yet either way which it will go. Given what other people consider excessive grind and what i consider to be perfectly fine or even "too fast"... I reckon i have a chance of being satisfied by it. If not however i will moan when i have something to moan about ;)
