I love how that very old cruiser even models rcs thrusters
924 (487) is my absolute favourite lego set.
My original one lay around for years in a part built state until I sold all my boxed lego star wars stuff and used the funds to restore it and add some friends. Luckily most of the printed and tricky bits were still intact and free of my teeth marks.
Iit's an expensive and slippery slope but well worth it!

I've just started a lego thread so that we can chat about general lego stuff and keep this for rubbernukes excellent creation:

Oh wow, this is epic. I've been looking to do an Asp for a long time now, but the sheer number of needed parts has me on hold. That is just awesome!

Getting the angles is the hard part. I'm also surprised as time has gone on how little Technic Lego I needed too- initially I had it all over, now I've stripped loads back.

Actually, I did not think to do it with Technic - mostly because I have very few technic sets, but it just makes sense as technic pieces are more flexible for the angles.

Its easy to get the frame angles with Technic, the difficulty comes from trying to get plates onto those frames and line them up- what I'm doing now is using ball joints and clips instead, so ordinary 4 x 8 angles plates can line up.

Interesting, I've just built the Ducati, and am mid build of the GT3 RS Porsche (been part of my wall of shame for a few years now), and assembling those has given me a few ideas, though working out the parts list will be a mission. The size I had in mind is ver much about the size you have, if not a tad larger. trying to build to Lego fig scale...

Really its working around the cleanest edges- my problem was I had an interior cage that was perfect but the joins were impossible over the top. In the end I ditched the hybrid approach and used plates with minimal technic (and old technic mainly :D new stuff is really bendy).
