Just begs the question. Are they going to continue development of elite.?

The rebalance needs doing last year.

I'm not a doom n gloomer. On the contrary.
I just want reassurance I'm not flogging a dead horse
Less than 5k?

I have sort of the inverse feeling than most of historical Horizons players. I think Odyssey is what saved Elite for me. I'm more of a FPS player.

After 1 year of doing only ships (which I loved), I started to get bored and was gonna quit. OD made me stay. Now, I got both the best spaceship and best FPS game.

After doing the last 3 combat CGs, I had tons of on-foot PvP. To me, OD is surprisingly one of the best competitive shooter I played in years (and I got hundreds of hours in Overwatch). You can really feel the 'Lemnis Gate' DNA, which is e-sport oriented.
Yeah, there's definitely a shortage of FPS games.

I quite like how ground CZ are done. Capture the flag elements but you have to keep moving and fighting to keep the advantage or win it back. It won't win any awards, but its pretty decent. I know those who are better at FPS games would like better AI. I suspect if i went to a high CZ i'd get absoloutely trashed though. Always the problem, trying to balance PvE elements for a wide range of player skills.

There's a shortage of "interesting competitive FPS games". I played too much of Overwatch, CS, Apex Legends and PUBG. OD brings a much needed new flavour to it (space explo + competitive FPS). I think SC is trying to do that too, but I didn't see any good video on YT about it ...

For casual players, all FPS look the same. But veterans will tell you that OD plays actually better than Battlefield.

Face it ! The borked shallow oddity release fps shooter did not go down well except a few students in Loughborough who pvped each other in anarchy settlements for s**ts n giggles.
The move away from exploration. From the technical hard aspect..dumbing it down..
Has bitten em in the butt.
I love this game. And I'm genuinely worried they'll look at the figures & pull the plug in 12 mths time

In fact they won't pull the plug anytime soon. It would be contrary to all they have said, namely their recent Annual Report (https://www.frontier.co.uk/annual-report/) which lists Odyssey to be present at least until FY 2025 and contains zero mentioning of pulling the plug anytime soon or EDO, while having a disappointing launch, being a financial desaster. In fact they expect players to migrate or come back after fixing the issues. What we might not see is substantial development in the near future, but with console releases announced, it is legally not possible to shut down a game unless the customer had a substantial period of time to play it, let's say two years at minimum or so. It's way too early for any Sunset Announcement yet, and I predict the game will be online for much longer than many of us think.

O7,
🙃

Not Battlefield 1942...but that's pretty subjective.

Shooters, even tactical ones, have been on a downward trend since they introduced sprint gauges ("...but you're carrying a hundred pounds of garbage no combatant in their right mind would carry into a firefight!"), long term stat tracking, ranks, and unlocks.

I predict the game will be online for much longer than many of us think.

The game has minimal support requirements, if the goal is to simply keep it running. They could probably pay for it on the charity of that one guy who really likes paint.

I would not be the least bit surprised if I'm still able to log in and play in 2035. I will be absolutely astounded if there is any reason for me to.

I hear you. To me, the "stamina gauge" created more of a "schism" than a downward though.
I like the sprint mechanic because I'm not great at aiming and it promotes better footwork.

You came play PvP ? (Edit : I say that because I didn't see many CMDRs during the CGs)
I would if I ever saw anyone, but it feels like everyone is in a group or solo anyway. And I've played online shooters from Duke Nukem 3D until modern day variants (including quite some Battlefields, CoDs, etc.) and I can't really imagine how Odyssey PVP would come even close to those experiences in terms of maps, variety of vehicles and weaponry, game modes, player numbers, et al.

You have to come on the High Intensity surface CZ during next CG. There's always one where all CMDRs come for PvP (last time was Lagrange Dredging Station, we were about 15).

Odyssey totally hides its game (it's actually Lemnis Gate). It's the perfect mix of CoD / Battlefield gunplay, coupled with the verticality and multitasking of Unreal / Overwatch (because of jetpack, control points, etc.)

Edit : let's go play together in PvP next time !
