Less than 5k cmdrs logging in now.

I expect I would have been. I was never particularly good at PvP in Quake.
Actually, not at all. You would have found other people siding with you (3 beginners can kill 1 vet). And we all play friendly, not punishing. Since we were only 15 CMDRs, we understood that we had to be nice.

Edit : it's a team based shooter, not Quake.

I expect I'll have to try it sometime.

Yeah, very team-based, even going so far as to reward assists (good on ya, FDev, for a job well done in encouraging team-play).

Just begs the question. Are they going to continue development of elite.?
Odyssey has cost em dear it seems.
The rebalance needs doing last year.
Exploits fixed
Networking fixed
Multicrew fixed
Piracy fixed
Smuggling fixed
Goid synths fixed
High profit gameplay loops closed.

Ok Reasons to be cheerful ;-
  1. They are continuing to develop Elite - See update 9 and 10.
  2. They are not just fixing bugs but adding in new content (see new mission types, Mission Wrickles, anti-ship turrets in on-foot CZs, new engineers, etc)
  3. They wouldn't be asking about engineering if they were going to finish with update 10.
  4. Both Sally and Arf has said they are planning balance passes of other parts of the game.
  5. We know the plot is going to continue well into 2022.
  6. The steam numbers are actually up from September by 6.7%. (I know we've lost 75% of the players because of Odyssey but since update 8 the numbers have been slowly increasing).
  7. it's 8:30 am! I've got to go to work !

I encountered one other player when I decided to play an on-foot Conflict Zone in open during the CG. They were basically indestructible and I only managed to kill them once with the help of a bunch of NPCs.
Then the capture points stopped spawning and I decided to leave and return to playing in solo.

Come play in my squad. I promise you it will not happen again.

i´d say it´s up to fdev if i return from my break.
i have enough games that run great on my machine, so i´m playing what i´m enjoying.
sadly, i can´t enjoy odyssey atm, and i don´t want to "spoil" the game, so i wait.
(i have worse performance and worse visuals compared to horizons)

You have to come on the High Intensity surface CZ during next CG. There's always one where all CMDRs come for PvP (last time was Lagrange Dredging Station, we were about 15).

Odyssey totally hides its game (it's actually Lemnis Gate). It's the perfect mix of CoD / Battlefield gunplay, coupled with the verticality and multitasking of Unreal / Overwatch (because of jetpack, control points, etc.)

Edit : let's go play together in PvP next time !
Good times Ryox, looking forward to the next one!

Also: find new high profit gameplay loops.
I just recently discovered the "infiltrate the mega-ship data-link" missions. A million or two for just scanning a data-link, then waking out before the pirates show up. Have they always been there? They seem to be a bit buggy, though, if you take out several of them at once. Complete one mission and another on your list gets marked.

Btw, does Steam notice if you're actually "in the game" or does it just count the time the launcher is running? I'll just keep the launcher up 24/7 if that makes anyone happy

Haven't seen a single person on my friends list for months.
I do however see them in other games that we play.
Odd is a big logoff for all of them.

Morbad pretty much nailed it here. Steam is referenced as a sampling tool not as a representative of the actual total player population.

Unfortunately, this is far more relevant to FDEV:

and I don't think Odyssey has hurt them bad enough to really care or invest what is necessary to recover from the Odyssey reviews.

Odyssey is a parallel offering to Horizons, and did next to nil to enhance the core ship gameplay other than tenuous atmospheres and broken planet tech.

There is going to have to be an appeal made to the "ship players" to make the game relevant again to that population.

Really enjoying a revisit to Cyberpunk to get my FPS itch scratched for now. Lot's of new titles coming out too. EDO isn't a dead horse, it's just wandering around in the pasture.

There are still exploits available in Elite? You should probably email community@frontier.co.uk to bring them to FDEV's attention.
What's wrong with networking? Not had any issues for ages now.
What's wrong with multicrew? Again, not had any issues for agees.
The fixes for piracy and smuggling are in the work.

Not sure about the other things you've mentioned.

Is Cyberpunk actually playable by now? I watched a few streamers on release day and it was a horrid mess. I'll wait for a 80% discount before I'd buy it.
The "recall ship car" feature was a real glitchfest.
