"Doom, doom never changes"

Seriously, after 9 years from Kickstarter and 7 from release at some point in the not too distant future ED will probably cease to be commercially viable or be left obsolete by new tech. And so if you call for Elite´s doom every year you are bound to be right at some point.

It sounds like you're trivializing the profession of Doom Saying. The Doom Sayer community is not going to take kindly to their life's work being labelled as worthless. A lot of analyzing and work is put into each Doom prognostication.

You should hope they dont look upon you and discover that you too are DOOOOMMMMEEEDDD as well.

There's a lot of strange waffle in this thread. However you cut it, the graph does look bad. It's an undeniably low drop at the end.

The build up of excitement on the run up to may 2021 is clearly visible, people playing to prepare for the launch of the new update, big spike at launch, and a huge drop to the lowest point it has been since the game launched. I'd say that's pretty telling and worth discussion.

Yup, its clear what happened and well acknowleged. FD can't afford to dwell on the past though, they've got to keep the patches coming, which is what they are doing. They haven't thrown in the towel. They are slowly improving things, and over time, hopefully, the reaction to the release will be overcome as things get better. Its already in a far better state than it was.

So, fingers crossed, FD can keep improving performance, and by this time next year, maybe it will be business as usual.

If they can't.... well, that will be a different story.

I like how stating basic statistics is considered "dOoOoOOoOOOom" now...
Like, mate, that ain't "doom", that's just how things are. Yeah, steam statistics don't represent absolutely everyone, but it's still a good majority of the player base.
Does that spell "DOOOM!!1!!!11"? Maybe, maybe not. It's all down to if and how FD remain invested in the game. Total concurrent players may influence that slightly, but unless it completely drops to zero, we're probably not gonna be seeing actual doom anytime soon.

I also find it interesting back when total concurrent steam players were at an all time high it was cause for celebration, but now that they're at an all time low, ya'll conveniently ignore them...

It helps when you remember many of the regulars here are trying to win the award of "Last one playing when the pull the plug on the servers".

Their goal is to kill the game so they can win the award of being the biggest fan.
