"Lesser-Known" Animals Wishlist #1: Small Mammals!

Time for some fun!

Now, the definition of "lesser-known" is a bit shaky, because what people in one region are less familiar with, might be common knowledge to people in another. I'm biased as I'm Canadian and have only ever lived in Canada. But I wanted to create a list that was bound to educate somebody out there on at least a few animals! It's always fun when I learn about a new species. And I think Planet Zoo should take advantage of being an educational tool, and introduce people to less famous species than tigers and lions. It's already doing a good job, with animals like the pangolin, nyala, and bongo. (I knew about bongos since I was a small child, but only because I played Zoo Tycoon 1.)

I'm not sure how far Planet Zoo will stray from the basis of "only animals found in real zoos." Especially because real zoos already have so many species, sometimes hundreds of vertebrate species. There's plenty of animals that are overwhelmingly well-known that still aren't in the game, and are expected to be. Even polar bears weren't in the base game, and we've yet to receive kangaroos, koalas, African rhinos, true leopards, jaguars, foxes, most deer, most birds... I could go on all day. Frontier would surely give those animals priority. So I'm not saying any of my species here are likely, or that I'll be sad if I don't see them. It was just too much fun making this list! I'll add to it whenever I have time.

I also realized I had so many animals, that I started to divide them into categories.

Introducing my first "lesser known animals" post: small/medium mammals! (Some of these might require my Large Exhibits / Mammal Aviary idea?)

😂 I knew every Species before (except Pacas and Olinguitos)
Edit: just googled the Olinguito. I've seen it before. I was just confused because of the angle of the Photo

Would definitely love the binturong, a lot of zoos have them nowadays and they're similar in size to the red panda.

I think a few of the species you've listed are probably a tad small for habitats, and I don't think Frontier is going to make mammalian exhibit animals with the current exhibit model, but over-all it's a pretty reasonable list in terms of small animals.

Incoming! Oh my.... I think "small mammals" will probably be the longest category I have. I just kept finding so many, and loved them all too much to narrow it down!

(Sorry if there's too many Australian animals, especially if they're super well known to Australians. I have a feeling some of these are as well-known down there as raccoons are in Canada.)

I really like it. They look awesome.

I don't know how unknown they are but I would really like to see the Giant pouched rat in the Game. The Hammer-headed Bat would also be awesome if someday flying Animals will be included in the Game

oh wow, these ARE neat

I agree. I for one believe they should include Every Bat.

Agree. I also think it's unlikely that Frontier will give us the exact idea of mammal-exhibits I want, but it would be very cool. I think I've totally overdone it at this point, haha it's not really a reasonable "wishlist" anymore, so much as a small mammal showcase thread. But if they included a handful of these, I'd be stoked!
