Lets talk about the Frontier Workshop

Would be really good if you could filter specifically by the name of the flat ride you want a design for (like you can for the particular food stall, etc).

Frontier need to just stop kidding around and bring back the Steam workshop. I don't like the Frontier workshop and I don't plan on using it.
Yes it's the only way.

  • Keep Frontier workshop for the cross-platform functionality.
  • Add Steam workshop (extra) for PC players to make the game actually successful and give the console players even better creations because right now the PC or steam community of this game just seems dead, if they add steam workshop, then the OG's and real creative people will come back to the game and people would be motivated to invest more time in this game. It just has to happen.

Agreed (with myself)

It doesn't filter by specific flat ride. You have to search for what it's called but sometimes people make typos in the name, or call multiple things by a similar name, so a text search isn't good enough. We need a tickbox specifically to include blueprints for a certain ride.

I agree, the Workshop is pretty bad. The search function is awful. I typed in the exact name of a blueprint and it didn't even come up in the search. Items that had absolutely no resemblance to the item or even the words I typed came up.

What is the purpose of the search field on this screen? I typed the name of a creator I was searching for, and nothing came up. In fact, I don't think it's functional at all. Maybe it's still a work in progress.

thats because it literally uses every single word you type and looks for that in every aspect of the item, may it be title, description, tags whatever.
ive already said this once here on the forums, people can do the test themself. search for "the smiler" on frontier workshop and then on steam workshop. steam gives you 10 pages of items directly related to that ride. meanwhile frontier workshop doesnt have a single item related to that ride in its 10 first pages...
the frontier workshop in its current state is so bad and tbh i highly doubt we will see any significant changes, and if they happen id guess probably only in 2-3 years time when theres dlc out and they want to draw people back in with "workshop 2.0" or something like that

Its been 9 months now and zero changes to the workshop apart from adding the creators tab… infact its gotten even worse over the past few months. Constant connection issues, ui bugging out regularly, search function still feels like an early google search engine alpha stage, still the same users abusing the update blueprint tool…
Content cant fix this either dear frontier.

We can only hope for Steam Workshop added also

Just a heads up (Sorry for being controversial). But I remember that the reason why Steam Workshop sadly can't be added to Planet Coaster 2 is likely because of console players unable to access PC players' content. So Frontier had to do for Planet Coaster 2, is to make Planet Coaster 2 only have the Frontier workshop for a wider range (Both PC and console could access). However, Frontier didn't work on it enough and I do really wish Frontier gave the workshop more time before releasing (Including what many people say. I say a lot about their profanity tracker. Which is a big issue). But Frontier seemed under budgeted against Planet Coaster 2 (Buggy guest/staff Ai, Missing features, incomplete Frontier Workshop, and more). Fortunately, Frontier has been fixing the game. But still, we are missing features (Especially the Frontier Workshop)
One of the only good things about bringing the Steam Workshop to Planet Coaster 2 is that PC players can have a high quality workshop with a large upload limit. However, this might seem unfair to console players.

Theme Makers Tool Kit in Planet Coaster 1 was treated similarly. Rolled out by Frontier as a huge new feature requested by many players, after it's initial release Frontier pretty much walked away from it. If I recall they never did release some of the sample assets they said they planned to. There was little instruction or interaction with creators after it's release. To this day the Editor can be slow, the site sometimes not even working for long periods. The number of people creating TMTK items has of course dropped dramatically, but Frontier's support for it always seemed begrudgingly given even before PC2 was released.

The main difference between the TMTK on Steam and the PC2 Workshop is that people didn't have to use the Editor to create new assets themselves, they could easily download items shared by others from Steam.

In PC2 you don't have to create structures/rides yourself, you can download them from the Frontier Workshop, but not easily and only when it works.

Sadly, based on past performance, I don't expect to see many changes to that.

I'm sure not everyone would agree with me, but when limitations are put on the game just so it can function for the lowest common denominator, that's unfair to PC players who expected better performance, including the ability to easily share parks and assets since that's something heralded by Frontier as a major selling point for these games. I don't play on console, I play on PC. And I expect a level of performance and gameplay equal in quality to the standards for a PC, including that access to shared assets the game promises. And I expect Frontier to meet those standards. If their own Workshop can't or won't, then one that will. My 'expectation' may never be met, but they remain, and they certainly affect my willingness to continue purchases from Frontier for this game or future ones. I'm certainly happy to see steps taken to improve other aspects of the game, not so sure we'll see the same for this one...

"Unfair" is not really a thing since they are limited in hardware and blueprint limits too. Its just underpowered compared to a desktop PC anyway. Might as well give PC players Steam Workshop as an extra because the Frontier workshop is unusable.

I agree it's also unfair for PC players that expected a better product compared to the first game but the opposite is true unfortunately.

I also heard the upload limit is only 200 uploads. So maybe Steam Workshop would solve a lot of problems with this game.
