Lets test this persistent universe and see if FD are true to their word.

Not long now guys... How can FD defend a .1% faction that maintains control of a system?

Crush LFE!

Silly question, has anyone thought of PMing Michael Brookes about the SN/LDF civil war cooldown? IIRC, the Mikuun thread had to do something similar. As the saying goes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Just been catching up with this thread - good to know it's not working as intended and that it's being investigated - would be interesting to see what's causing the issue (maybe we pushed it to hard/too quick?)

I've been online most nights (except last night) doing a few trips and missions in my little asp, nothing as major as the millions of trading that some have been doing, but hopefully it's still helping the cause!

Regarding the earlier question about the civil war cool down for the other two minor factions, I think they're still on the 26 day cooldown, I got the impression that the new 3 day cooldown is only for new civil wars. I could be wrong.

In this instance we can't. It looks like there's an issue preventing this being flipped. We are investigating.

Michael

Thank goodness!!

Just handed in some rebel transmissions. Those were the results. First of all, Blue Energy Incorporated isn't even in this system. How could handing in Rebel Transmissions increase FAMINE?? FD, please investigate as well.

Uhhh...hmmm...maybe they were transmissions about rebels smuggling shipments of goldfish crackers into Lugh and now you've gone and upset the proverbial apple cart? How could you! Poor Lughans have nothing to put in their space soup, now! They'll starve!

Sorry, it's just been a loooong day, and I'm a little out of sorts.

Michael, how and for how long did you test this system before going to release?

Give him break :) They are up to their eyes. At least they fix these problems as they arise. It would be a different matter if they didn't.

Besides, I think people underestimate how hard it is to cover all your bases, and how long it takes to find bugs at times.

I had a friend in high school who'd programmed an AD&D (2nd edition to date myself) character generator. We'd used it for years, brought it to college with us, shared it with others, and it worked perfectly until a new player to the group AND the game managed to lock up the program every time she used it. To make matters worse, every time one of us tried to replicate this feat, it worked correctly every time. Drove him batty, trying to figure out what was happening. Turned out that we were all used to having access to Word Perfect, and he'd borrowed parts of its user interface in that program. She was used to a different word processor, and did things slightly different from the rest of us. Combined with doing something in the character generator that players of AD&D didn't normally do, and she got one locked up program.

You can always only test so much. And the dev "knowledge" is limited. Especially when it comes to the amount and effort people are willing to put in. And find ways to beat the system. And do rather "stupid" things, like trading at a loss, or randomly killing 10.000 ships, or delivering 25.000 tons of non-lethal weapons.

Nevertheless the amount of bugs is still rather high. I hope we will see a change of pace in regards to fixes as soon as all the 25 day cooldowns are gone.

Especially to these three issues (imho bugs):
- huge influence superiority not triggering further civil wars (needed for change of allegiance)
- minor factions without stations not getting influence increases
- systems not getting influence changes at all

We are active in a number of systems, and almost all systems where we do not support the ruling minor faction run into one of these 3 issues sooner or later.

Especially the part with the minor faction that does not own a station is a severe hindrance to any focused effort in influence gaming.

The answer is "as much as they could" - There were WAY bigger and more easy to spot bugs to fix throughout the beta/gamma phases and prior to release it could be argued that there really weren't enough of us about to put in this kind of concerted effort in several systems as is happening now. Now that there ARE these multiple concerted efforts going on we are putting enough pressure on the influence system that we are starting to expose these issues, and they are showing up in a more systematic manner than was possible in beta/gamma so they not only have visibility but it's possible for the devs to get a handle on what's needed to fix them.

On this one, FD deserve to be cut a fair bit of slack.

Oh, and one very annoying bug in regards to influence games is the pending state display bug, where
- pending states for all minor factions won't show anymore as soon as you viewed a minor faction in detail that does not have a pending state.

Sorry to say but... this systems were not live in early gamma even (probably because they weren't even production ready and still being worked on). Hard to test something when it does not exist. If you were in beta/gamma you will remember that endless Eranin war. Neither there were changes in at least most of gamma, it does not require any concerted effort to 'move' the system, just being systematic and certain traffic can move systems without any directed effort as has been proved later.

Fact is, we are alpha testing this NOW.

code for despite us saying the background sim is working as intended its so riddled with bugs and we cant be bothered to fix it cause we fired the guy that developed it. So no u cant influence the universe cause despite this being known for over a month it still hasnt been fixed and wont be but well keep telling people that it is working as intended yadda yadda yadda. We need a serious dev blog on the background sim and FD need to make sure everything that is implemented to date is coded properly
