Lets test this persistent universe and see if FD are true to their word.

it is so possible to join a faction i aquired the rank of REcruit in the Federation last night.

It's a status on your menu. You can't willingly join a faction.. . you can do missions until you earn a rank, that's it. There's no "all the players on this faction" missions you can do as a team with other players. That's what I'm talking about.

It's basically a status for bragging rights and doing missions that are fundamentally the same as the other missions but otherwise unavailable until you earn the rank. It means nothing in terms of it's actual affect on your game.

I think this power struggle were about to see at launch will show its effect.

Down with the Federation
Empire above all
You earned yourself another fighter for this rightful cause.

How else would you expect to join a faction? Have a "join faction" button that gives you a badge or something? That sounds like an open invitation to fifth-columnists. Doing a faction's bidding in order to gain enough reputation with them for them to consider you part of the gang is exactly what I would expect to do, honestly.

Well that is what we are trying to ascertain. Does a group working in synchrony, have outcomes to the 'game board'. No, you are not a 'special snowflake' or hero...nothing you personally do carries particular rewards or penalties...unless you really decide to be truly anti federal..or alliance..or any other faction and kill all that you see, thus gaining in game reputation in the form of bounties. You also become a target for those that want your bounty.

Here's the thing, this game isn't your 'typical' MMO...in some ways it's much more vast than a normal MMO. Your personal achievements truly mean little to the galaxy at large. I like to think about this game now as not being about a bunch of elephants smashing through the world doing great things. I like to think about it like a large number of ants consuming an elephant. As long as you personally keep knicking away at the carcass, along with a few hundred folks aware and doing the same thing, the carcass of the behemoth will disappear. THIS is the MMO I believe that was envisioned. If we have the level of freedom to remove regional powers, increase other regional powers, and continue to spread this influence throughout nearby star systems, we as players can carve niches out for our factions and fight against those that would try to swing other factions back into power...including the 'big 3'.

Got in a good two hours tonight, shuttling stuff back in forth for the Crimson State Group. Earned enough to finally upgrade the cargo holds of my Cobra.

I did see something curious in Seller's Dock in the Sesues (sp?) system. A mission for the Crimson State Group (should've taken a screen shot).

Well played to tonight gents/ladies! Made enough to cover the two losses of my ship! To the second pirate that left me without thrusters! Great to be done in by a pro! We will meet again...and you will have to do the same again! You will have to pry out the cargo and leave me stranded! But maybe next time I'll be better at the fight and the outcome will be different! I know there are no free rides, there is a cost of doing business! <tip o' the hat>

Sesuang. Too bad you didn't take a screenshot. The "expansion" state is already in the game and triggery expansion into other systems. I hope we will see it with the Crimson State.

This is very exciting, looking forward to seeing how this all turns out!

Heading over to Lugh now in a Cobra MK3 to help out the cause - down with the Federation! :D

You know, it occurs to me that with instability in the Empire and the potential for the cold war turning hot, the feds might feel the need to look publicly united. Which means even minor insurrections would have to be stepped on. Swiftly. If this kicks off the way we're hoping it will there may be capital ships in our immediate future!

Also, do NPC ships count as part of the Pilots Federation or is it just us commanders? The Founders World is, like, right over there and making noises about expanding. Suddenly a bunch of PF yahoos show up in a neighbouring system and foment a rebellion. Awkward!
