An Open Letter to the Freedom Fighters of Lugh

Greetings

I am Patron Roshni Narang of Emerald, Matriarch of the Narang family, and the master of Inga Stevenson.

I have been watching the events in the Lugh system with great interest, ever since my granddaughter Devika first brought the matter to my attention. It is inspiring to watch a people rise up against the tyranny of the Federation and the corporate oligarchy that rules it. Liberty is highly valued in the Empire, the freedom to make your own way through the galaxy, and it is up to every one of us to nourish it whenever it takes root.

It may seem odd for the Empire, long villainized by the Federation for the institution of slavery on our worlds, to be the bastion of Liberty in the galaxy. It is an issue that has long been debated in the Empire, a debate that I doubt will ever be truly end.

We console ourselves that each and every slave on our worlds has chosen to enslave themselves of their own free will, for a variety of reasons. Some choose it to fulfill a debt to another, having lost everything but their most priceless possessions: Life, Liberty, and Honor. Some do it to make restitution to someone they have wronged, or to pay their debt to the society they've preyed upon. Some, like our own Inga, do it to advance in life, to get opportunities that would never be available if they had remained free.

We pat ourselves on the back that our slaves have most of the the other rights that other citizens of the Empire enjoy. That we treat them with far more care and respect than unregulated slaves outside the empire, or the so-called "free" corporate employees in the Federation. That we are bound by honor, duty, and law to see to their needs are met, and that they are neither neglected nor abused.

But the sad reality is that there are unscrupulous individuals in the Empire who violate the laws in place that regulate the institution slavery. They abandon the duty they owe to their slaves, and their own honor, to exploit those they should be caring for. We are well aware of slaves kidnapped from the Empire, often by their own masters, and shipped outside our worlds to live a short life of hardships, misery, and despair. Daily we hear of new scandals, of men and women abused by their masters. And each time we find slave owners acting less like Imperials, and more like Federalists, the debate begins anew.

Inga Stevenson was the one who first brought your plight to our attention, and requested permission to help. Devika, who has been managing Inga's duties for several years, was more than willing to give that permission, much to my great surprise. Lately, Inga has been requesting permission to take a more active role in your struggles. She felt that doing simple delivery missions would not be enough to liberate this system from the Federation. She reminded us that the Tree of Liberty must not be watered by the blood of Patriots, but the blood of those who would see that tree cut down. But like all honorable slaves, she took good take care of the property of her owners, which included herself.

Unfortunately, we feel we cannot honorably order a slave to engage in active combat, no matter how willing she is. Self defense is one thing, but ordering her to risk her life, which is her property and not ours, is another. So we must, reluctantly, decline our slave's request to "unleash the dogs of war" upon the Federation and their supporters. Furthermore, the time has long past when Devika should have withdrawn Inga from the Lugh system. The recent struggle to free Balandin Gateway, plus the civil war in Sesuang, indicate that the situation is too dangerous to allow a slave in our care to remain in the system.

And so I would like to formally apologize to you on behalf of the Narang family, Inga, for allowing you to remain in danger for so long. I had expected Devika to withdraw you at the first sign of actual warfare, but it is none the less my responsibility for not steeping in much sooner. I should not have allowed Devika to take advantage of your willingness to remain in that system. As such, I am ordering all slaves of the Narang family to withdraw from the Lugh system, and return to Emerald.

And now I must apologize to you on my behalf, Inga. Check the ID you got at the completion of your mission near Eranin. It is not a fake Imperial ID to allow you to operate outside the Empire freely. It is your actual Imperial ID, and as of December 7th, 3300, your contract with us had been registered as completed in full. The sidewinder and 100 credits you received after delivering the Cobra to our agent there are registered to you. Everything you've made since then is yours to keep. You have more than fulfilled the spirit of my father's terms, even if you have not completed the actual time my father snuck into your contract. I feel I cannot honorably profit from your labor any further. It is time to allow the Stevenson family to regain its place in the Empire, and to once again be one of our most valued allies.

I had intended it to be a surprise for when you returned to Emerald on December 16th. I wanted to see your expression when I told you that you'd been working for yourself on the way home. There was going to be a party. I had a cake ordered and everything! But Devika allowed you to go Lugh instead. You've flourished there, and I have no doubt you'll continue to do so. Once you've decided you've helped the people of Lugh enough, feel free to return to Emerald if you want to. I could use the help of a woman of your talents.

And I have a cake in stasis I would really like a slice of.

Good luck, Inga, and Sic Semper Tyrranis!

Why that sneaky little...

Don't worry folks, I'm here until you win your independence. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go order a Viper. :)

(OOC: I had originally intended for Inga's slavery to end once the game went live. It was a good in-character explanation for the frequent resets and odd diversions to test things in Alpha, the Betas, and Gamma. When I saw the Lugh experiment, I wrote most of the above, so that Inga's official freedom would coincide with the civil war for Lugh. But I've gotten tired of waiting for the bugs to get ironed out of the background sim. I want to do a little of the old-fashioned pew-pew, and it would be completely out of character for Inga to violate orders, or her master to allow her to.)

very creative, well done

this lockdown is killing our progress...

People reading this please STOP DOING MISSIONS TO OBTAIN NON-LETHAL WEAPONS!. It is creating a lockdown situation in the Lugh system.

I am guessing that randon visitors are doing the missions provided by CSG but now at this point there seems to be three missions to obtain weapons on the go the whole time. This is increasing 'Lockdown' and is going to end up shutting us down.

Please pass the word around to stop doing these missions until we get this situation under control!

We have dropped .4% and LFE have gained that .4%.

I have noticed it has been very quiet around the system the past couple of days. Guys, we need to push this one more time. I know some of you are getting put out by the fact there has been no change but if you look at it like this:

If we get to 90% and there is still no change then FD are going to have to step in and fix the problem. There must be some kind of bug at play here where the civil war has been hovering there since Christmas. We can't let all our work go to waste now at the last hurdle. Remember that there are game reviewers who read this forum. They are aware of what we are doing here. This has been a good example of ED's persistant universe at work and if it fails to work it it does not put the developers in a good light. They are aware of this and would never want that to happen. Nor do we! It is in their interest to fix this and have it working properly. This showcase is good press for the game. They are aware of this problem themselves and have been working tirelessly to fix the problems. This problem will be fixed but we need to keep going and push hard so that it leaves no room for speculation as to whether we simply didn't manage to do it or not.

In my opinion there are a possible number of problems here. One may be that we are stuck of civil war pending and it refuses to budge. Another might be that a single state is only possible at any one time. If so Boom has to end before war can begin. Another problem I see is in the missions themselves. To me at the moment it seems there are lots of missions that increase lockdown but there does not seem to be missions that reduce it. This seems like a bit of an imbalance in the system as it presently stands. But all the stuff we are doing here serves to showcase this to the developers so they can tweak it.

So I am asking you to get out there one more time and push this. Stay away from missions delivering weapons. This is important because since the last fix they do not seem to increase civil unrest but changed and now they are increasing lockdown instead. There are random players out there doing random trade. If we are not out there our % is going to fall but if we can make 90% FD will have to hold their hands up and fix this problem.

I took a break yesterday and went to Lave to increase my rep with the Alliance, but now iam back to trade for you guys. If everything goes well, i should be able to trade my Type 9 for a Anaconda at Baladin tonight... not sure if the money will benefit CSG or not but i will give it a try. :)

Definitely do this! If ship sales feed the economy you will be doing us a major favor! Good man! :)

orfeboy some missions effects are context-dependent, I've seen weapon delivery missions both gibing lockdown and not giving it. And yes, this was post-1.06.

Yes I think so. There was also a bug fix recently referring to station doors killing ships at random. This suggested to me that the stations have doors that they can close. So maybe stations can litterally shut down with zero traffic being able to come in or out. We must avoid lockdown at all costs!

According to this thread the doors have no purpose. Aside from this I agree that we should try to avoid a lockdown for CSG. I'm still doing missions for CSG in Lugh, not as many as some of you guys but I try my best since the beginning of the revolution. But I have to say that I slowly lose interest for this peaceful takeover. I hope we get a war starting soon, I'd like to use my weapons more in the near future :)

I can reduce lockdown by killing pirates, but it also reduces civil unrest

Reducing civil unrest would be a good thing. Civil unrest is pretty much a change in faction leadership. Whoever took the helm in the Crimson State Group may not be as sympathetic to our cause.

On another note, I just docked at Balandin Gateway with my shiny new viper. Before I went to pick that up, I did a quick jaunt into the black just for the fun of it. Just sold 50,000 credits worth of exploration data to CSG. I'm going to take a break, see what equipment's available, and then its mission time.

Defenders of Lugh, my apologies for my lack of activity lately, i have been wrapped up in personnal affairs in preparation for my brief journey home, but i have returned to assist you again for another couple of weeks.
Seeing the situation i will concentrate my efforts on the local pirates and various leaders and other traitors... When i can find them.
Though i apologize to any Type-6 pilot i may or may not have scared while i was cruising around the system under wanted status.

And congratulations Miss Stevenson on your hard-earned freedom.

So yeah, i'm not sure where all this is going, technically speaking, i can understand that FD do not wish to explain the inner workings of the simulation, but they wouldnt need to if it made sense, and right now i am not entirely sure it does in the way i would expect it to, some system are sinking in total chaos while other just shrug off concerted efforts, i can't imagine everything is "working as intended". And anyway, even if they don't explain anything peoples will experiment to try to understand how it work anyway, so they could as well be entirely clear.
That being said i'll keep going as long as peoples are still keeping this alive (aside from a one-ish month hiatus i'll have to take in early february), but i'd really love a clarification from some devs as to how things are supposed to work.

I've been watching with interest this thread and following along in a tiny system. I'm prolly out of place offering any insight. I stack up several missions before I turn them in, non lethal, food, agri medicine and lets say a scrap metal mission, then turn them in all at once. Non lethal first, food maybe next, agri medicine next, ending it up with a srap metal run maybe to end the ups and downs on a hi note, boom hopefully. Trying to placate each missions effects with the next mission till they are left happy. Not just trying to do a bunch piecemeal. Just a thought. LOL Let me guess, you've already discussed this till hell froze over. :)
Any suggestions on this appreciated.

We're pretty sure there's some bugs still to iron out. Sesuang should've become independent, since the Federation doesn't control any stations there, and yet they still control the system. We'll keep providing data (and making a fortune in the mean time) until Frontier Developments can figure out what's going wrong.

What about creating civil unrest for the feds? If this changes faction command....

From the in-game descriptions I've seen, I'm assuming that depending upon the missions run when a faction is in that state, a democracy might change to a dictatorship, or vice versa. As for creating unrest for the LFE, I've noticed that betraying a LFE mission often creates unrest for them. It's why I spend so much time trying to betray as many of their missions as I can get. I don't mind working for the CSG, but I really enjoy being a double agent. ;)

Just finished searching for criminals at USSs. Got quite few bounties from the Federation, and some from the Empire, but nothing I could turn in to CSG. :( I'll turn the Federation bounties in at Zeaex, and I know of an Imperial outpost nearby, so I can turn those in there.

Michael said there was an issue with influence being awarded to the wrong factions for missions. I am starting to think Sesuang flipped because of this bug and all the work being done in Lugh.

Hmmm
I noticed today, I am allied with the empire, have allied status with systems in empire and federation. When I did missions today in the empire, it showed as losing influence in federation systems 100ly away, missions in no way pertaining to the other.
