LI YONG-RUI

Hi Guys!

Time's come for me to try the Python!

However, at this price range (with outfitting taken into account), it's now also time for me to consider buying from a Li Yong-Rui system. The ship itself is not too expensive (though it seemed like a small fortune not too long ago!), but the outfitting I want for it is going to easily triple the cost, which at 15% discount is a considerable chunk of credits for me.

Question for you : do the systems also take 15% from the value of ships you sell?

I.e., can I sell my current ship in a Li Yong-Rui system at no additional loss or should I sell it in another system?

My FDS is worth about 50Mil. Will a Li Yong-Rui system give me only 42.5Mil for it?

Thanks!

You lose 10% of the value of your ship wherever you sell it.

That includes the price of fitted equipment and modules so strip and downgrade everything before selling.

Your selling price is always based on the buying price, regardless of where you sell a ship.

So, if you buy an Asp for, say, Cr5m, you'll get Cr4.5m for it when you sell it (more or less, depending on what modules are fitted when you flog it).
Conversely, if you buy an Asp in an LYR system for Cr4m, you'll get Cr3.6m for it when you flog it again.

It's done that way so you can't go to an LRY system, buy a ship for a 15% discount, take it somewhere else and flog it for a 10% loss, thus giving you a net 5% profit and a way to make giant heaps of credits. :p

Not what I meant...

Does the Li Yong-Rui 15% price difference go both ways (selling and buying), or only one way (buying)?

EDIT : Ok, it does answer the question now that I know that the value is based on the purchase price I paid originally.

Ah! Got it!

Makes sense.

So...

If I look at the "value" of two identical ships, one coming from LYR, the other from a non-LYR, the two should show different values?

Wherever you sell the ship, you get 90% of the price you paid for it (no matter where you paid for it).

Thanks. It's been made clear (and also makes sense now that I think of it).

Welcome to the Python Club! It really is a fantasic ship, I have no large ship (yet), the Python is that good that it pretty much stopped me grinding credits for an Anaconda.

By the way Para Handy’s advice is well worth listing too if you ever sell a ship.

Any advice on outfitting will be very welcome!

Here's my first draft : https://goo.gl/TEYiv6

Not entirely sure about the Large laser... Might make it another Large MC.

Also, the reason for the turrets is that I don't see the python as a dogfighter. Or is it?

Fixed and Gimballed weapons require the target in front of you. Not sure if my reasoning's good on that front...

Definitely! Already done it for the couple of ships I sold already.

Yep.

I have 3 identical AspX miners and for ages I couldn't figure out why one was worth something like Cr2.5m more than the other 2.
Went through all the modules, over and over, trying to spot any differences but couldn't find any.

Then I realised that I'd built the first one somewhere else and then bought/outfited the other 2 at an LYR station.

Modules, if you sell them separately, sell for full price, so the advise has always been to sell modules first, then sell the hull, as the hull loses 10% of its value, based on the price you paid for it.

Except scooping cargo. :p

If you plan to do a lot of "black box recovery" missions in a Python, it might be best to fit a Collector and then take some limpets with you.

Wow, I was not aware of this, I scoop in the Python a fair bit. I did think it was a bit more difficult than the other ships but thought it was just me.

I am far from good at anything on ED, does that then mean I am above average at scooping (I would prefer to be good at combat, but will take not actually being fairly naff at anything at all!)?

Heh.

It's not "impossible" but it's well-known for being kind of fiddly due to the shape of the underside of the Python, which means there's plenty of opportunity for cargo to bump the underside and go spinning away before reaching the cargo hatch.

Long as you keep the target in the bottom half of the mini-screen, it's do-able.
it's just not as easy as with some other ships.

Oh, and forget it if you've got weapons deployed.
The cargo will hit your belly gun before it reaches the cargo hatch.
