That's a very big IF... looking at past experiences, I am not holding my breath.

Space legs: You can't really walk around but you can move the camera freely inside your ship. That counts as legs, right?
Base building: Initiate a weekly CG and if yours gets picked, a base will be built that you might be able to name. And of course, roam around with the free camera mode as per "space legs"
Reworked ice planets: Ice crystals will now form on your canopy when landing, giving you an image of how cold it is outside. And again, enjoy exploring the planet in the free camera mode, and see yourself in your cockpit inside the ship.

Personally, I'm hoping that the 2020 update turns out to be the Elite equivalent of No-Man-Sky. The walking around planets, stations and base building is a lot more immersive in NMS than I was expecting and has really improved since release.

I probably would spend more time in NMS but there are a few major issues I have with it ; -
  1. Space Flight / Space combat is nowhere near as good as Elite's.
  2. The planets, solar systems and galaxies of NMS don't feel as real or immersive as Elite's.
  3. I much prefer what's in Elite's BGS to the NMS Equivalent.
  4. Being able to play in third person perspective (ie, over the shoulder cam). I hated this in Freelancer and it makes any game feel too 'arcade'y regardless of the flight model (The third person mode in Elite's Gunner mode in multi-crew in acceptable, mostly because I played a gunner in X-wing Alliance and Black Prophecy and it was awful).
As I don't see NMS resolving those issues, I'm hoping that we'll get the equivalent in Elite.

Problem is with FD being radio silent there is still hope for some........ TBH i would rather FD did a video or a long post regarding the road so far, about lessons learned from making a game and also would go through the main missing or hugely cut down features talked about in the DDF and the dev diaries and be honest about whether they are still on the list or are really not either feasable or the direction the devs want to take the game in.

personally until they do that i shall continue to hope they will appear, as well as be dissapointed when they dont.

honestly people keep taking about features such as space legs and atmospheric landings and all sorts of cool, but really hard to do (well) features... i would just be happy with a ships crew with fairly basic skills sets for very minor passive bonuses as well as the ability to hire npc wingmates and have some escort missions....

I can't wait for the wailing and 'hurt' when, in 2020, those who pre-purchased get the next paid-content for 'free', doubly so if it includes some frippery that is 'only' available to those who pre-order the next update, which will of course include all those who pre-paid.

Yup, rubbing my hands together in eager anticipation..... ....only another 16-18 months to go..............

A retrospective would be nice. Anything that looks to the future though... well, you know the community. Anything said as "we would like" would be taken as an absoloute promise.

No, they don't. Nothing of any significance has come from the 2015 LEP except a moving date & some wishful thinking from the community.

I'd like to know what I've bought, but FDev clammed up once the money was in their hands. Offer customers a way to revert to a regular Horizons beta account & they can take as long as they like & be as secretive as they like.

Nothing has happened yet.

FDEV does not really need to do you any favours to get there, because like it or not that is precisely what you bought.

Having said that, and for the record, I would personally love to see FDEV refunding you. Honestly, and no salt intended.

You're totally missing my point, either intentionally or otherwise.

I'm not talking about the LEP, i'm talking about this thread. Its going on and on and on, with nothing ever going to come out of it.

What I (and others) have got from the LEP so far is Horizons, some skins/decals, and presumably next year another expansion. What will come after that, if anything, remains to be seen.

Whether at the end of it all people consider it worthwhile will depend on the person.

Whether this thread has any value.... well, i have to say no, it doesn't. 41 (soon be 42) pages of ranting into the wind.

Clearly I am going to have to explain this again.

If I knew then what I know now (the protracted delay without new information) I would not have chosen to buy the LEP instead of the Horizons expansion.

Since nothing has materially changed in over three years I will be happy to have my account reverted back to the regular Horizons beta level and have the value not redeemed refunded.

This will not affect any other customer. However your continued badgering of another customer over an issue between me and the company does affect me.

I understand that you have an opinion and you feel the need to defend this indefensible behaviour from FDev, please let them do so themselves.

And also get the refund in lieu of communication, it can all be done. The lack of either is the problem. The LEP situation has been handled poorly, it has been overlooked & passed over. I'm not bitter, I bear no grudge, I'm happy to revert my account to a regular Horizons Beta one & just buy whatever eventually gets released like the majority of customers. I believed in them, it didn't work out, that's the way it goes.
