Salvaging is coming in 1.4 right? Or 1.5 if not, but I'm pretty certain it's in the beta right now.
The city lights are in for quite a few months now.
The solar system view has been cut for now, but may appear later (as part of the core not an expansion).
The funky space station looks like something out of CQC, that I flew around last night.
What specifically are you waiting for that you assume either won't come, or will be moved to a paid expansion?

You can. Some of what he posted is in already, other parts are in the beta that will be open to everyone tomorrow. The rest is just pretty is concept art rather than content.

I decided early on that I wasn't going to bother with the LEP.
Horizons is £30 on pre-order. FDev have said that each "season" is going to be approximately a year. The LEP is £130, meaning that you would need to pay for more than 4 seasons to make it pay for itself. I look on the LEP as a long-term investment for those who know they're going to still be playing 4 years from now. I don't know about you lot, but I don't know if I'm still going to be playing this game in a year from now, let alone 4 years!

Didn't buy the LEP because:
1. I have purchased live time subs before only to have the game go F2P or even close after a few years.
2. I disagree with it only being available for a short time each year for a slightly decreased price. I think it would be better served as being available all year round so it can be purchased as a gift along with making it clear that with the announcement of each new season the LEP will drop in price so buy beware.
3. With no clear road map available for this type of game (Best not to let the competition know what you plan on doing) it is impossible to know what the future seasons will be. Could the 3rd season be landing on worlds with atmosphere's but not earth like, S4 - Gas giants with floating bases and S5 being asteroids/comets and finally S6 being Earth-like worlds with no life. S8 ELITE:Life.
Plus as a side not to those who say they are backing FD by purchasing the LEP... I'll be paying more than you so am I not supporting them more?

The other game will offer all the content these overpriced expansions give us, but with a the price of a normal game. I would rather pay £40 and get all of this, instead of gambling on the expansions, especially after seeing all the broken promises from elite.
I didn't know that there were no planned expansions for the other game. That certainly makes quite a difference.
I hope it gets released, but I'll still be playing Elite either way

We'll see that if and when it happens. I bought SC before I bought ED, since that time I have 'played' SC for maybe 3 or 4 hours, there is only so much fun to be had walking around my hanger and playing arena commander, I update it now and then to check how things are coming along, not a lot has happened, and more importantly the game still runs like crap (I'm really not sure they picked the right game engine). If I was offered a refund for SC at this point, i would probably snatch their hand off.
By comparison I have had hundreds of hours of gameplay in Elite, and whilst it is far from perfect (and I've picked my faults with it), it is very enjoyable and I feel I have more than had my moneys worth from my initial investment.
At present, Elite feels like vanilla WoW to me, it is a fun base game and it will improve with each expansion.
Think of paying for each release separately is a bit like finance!
You're saved from having to fork out all at once, but for a little bit of additional cost in the long term.
£30 now, is a whole lot less than £130. Mean more drinking money, more outings for the family and more swimming lessons for the toddler.. And I still get to play ED. win win!

I could post the video where David Braben talks about how the game will be released and how they want to add the features in the future (...10 years...) but it would just waste everyones time because we all made our minds up already.
Instead I'll just say that I can't take anyone serious who still uses the term 'white knights'.
