Limited Biomes

From the footage and screenshots we've seen so far, it would appear that terrain textures are limited by the map's biome like in Planet Coaster. So if I chose to play in the North American map, I wouldn't be able to have the yellow grass of the savannah biome, or a deep jungle terrain option. While I love all the creative freedom the game provides otherwise, I really wished this limitation Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolutions had didn't carry over. The screenshots we've seen shows how an African Elephant looks natural in a green grass European/American zoo but I'm not sure if all animals apply to this. Chimpanzees for instance look a bit weird in the savannah biome. It is still fitting relatively, but a Polar Bear would be very odd. At a minimum I hope we can get the same Sandbox "Choose your textures" option Planet Coaster eventually added. Its just a shame that I'd have to give up some of the multiple sand/rock options in my Savannah zoo just to add a few jungle/tundra terrain options.

I was wondering how the game would handle different animal habitats. One thing to consider is that many animals do live in a variety of environments rather than only one type of biome. Leopards for instance can live in jungle, savanna, desert, and even temperate forests. I agree with you that the ability to simulate different environments and climates within each exhibit would be desirable, but I don't know if they should go the Zoo Tycoon route of having only one preferred biome for each species.

This was what I was thinking. I wouldn't want to go back to "Lion 1 needs two piles more earth". It would be nice if they'd be also satisfied with green gras in an european zoo. However, some zoos decide to craft the habitats like the original enviorement of the animal, so having the option to use only yellow stone for the lion enclosure in an european zoo (as we can't certainly gro savannah grass here) would also be nice.

I trust in frontier to find a good solution for this topic.

In Planet Coaster, there is a limitation on the number of terrain textures you can have per biome due to the voxel terrain system. Devs have discussed at length on streams and on the Planet Coaster forum why technically they could not achieve this. It may be the same here given they look as if they have similar terrain tools. However the flexibility the tools bring is amazing. As a work around for Planco you can create your own biome but just limited in texture number. You can however be creative with rocks and plants to simulate additional terrain.

Didn't they show during the e3 livestream EVENT, that the engine can now hold 10 textures per map instead of the 8 in Planco?
Or was it Geekism that commented on that in his video?
