They wouldn't need to be recoverable if the stupid things had better AI than a Korean War-era guided missile and could come back in and recharge when they drop below 10% run time or something.
I never leave any I have left out after finishing my mining stint, I stay with them until they they naturally expire. Closest thing to pets we have so the least anyone can do is wait with them. Better still would be instructing them to come back into the hold and not leave them to their fate in the uncaring, cold, darkness of space.
They always remind me of Huey, Dewy and Louie, the drones in Silent Running. Sob, I'm such a caring softy.

Exactly, they`re like loving little puppy dogs , full of love and hope...and then you abandon them . They`re still there now, silently crying waiting for you to return as the chill of space slowly takes them .
