Literally Unbelievable Experience

Got my Rift the other day. Decided that with the spare cash, even with the resolution issues, it would be worth getting a hold of this thing.

I wasnt wrong. Paired with an x52 hotas, and saitek combat pro pedals, along with voice attack the set up feels incredibly immersive, despite the loss in visual fidelity associated with having to run on lower settings to get stable frames.

Intense sense of presence. Realising my own breathing had synchronized with the pilot represented in game was very bizarre, even more bizarre when I realised the pilots body model is actually female! xD

Cannot wait to see how the technology and the software surrounding it develops - I can see vast progress just being made just by improvements to the underlying APIS and discarding this extended desktop nonsense.

Got alot of playing to do to reduce blur, which im sure is a problem on my end with my eyes.

For those on the fence, I can say that if you have the patience to do a bit of light troubleshooting and a beastly rig, and really want to know where the future of sim games are going, try this. Once it's properly developed, say goodbye to TrackIR.

Do you have toe breaks on the combat pro pedals? My Saitek pedals do, its worth (IMO) using Universal Joystick Remapper to combine the axis of the toe breaks so you can use them as the lateral thruster axis in Elite. Works very well in combat and while docking.

Welcome to the Elite - you will not regret your purchase!

BTW - Gundam Zeta rocks! My favorite of all of the series.

I do, ive currently got them to simply kill thrust because im used to that from playing DCS and other sims. Literally set it up last night and not entirely keen on using them for that.

I currently have the lateral thrusters bound to the smaller hat, but having the ability to use the larger surface area of the toe brake to pull it off sounds great, so ill give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion!

I bought Elite a while back but playing it in the Rift is a whole new level of awesome. Got to fiddle with drivers and all the other associated things to make it crisper and clearer.

Yes I am a huge fan of Gundam (OYW only) and Mechwarrior.. Zeta is also my favourite original series although I prefer some of the OVAs. If there was a mech game that properly supported 3d that wasnt Hawken, id be busting the Rift out immediately to give it a shot.

Tempted try it with MWO using something like Tridef, but that game annoys me for other reasons.

Yeah, One Year War is the only Gundam in my eyes....(Well U.C). I wasn't over struck on Unicorn recently though... shame really. OVA wise I love 0083... Has to be one of my favorites.

I'm CMDR Gihren Thrace in game - A Gundam / BSG tribute..

I'd also love a proper mech game with space flight / battles etc and Rift support..

Check, and doublecheck your IPD. Not just with the rift tool, but here as well: https://pd.warbyparker.com/
If you're more than a couple mm away from the 63.5mm that the rift is built to, then you might need to make some lens adjustments.

Looking forward to getting mine adjusted so I can enjoy the experience for more than a few min. (the excessive blur quickly gives me a headache)

Blur for me was about the positioning of the straps and subsequently the lenses. If the lenses are out of position then I get blur - but when the goggles are resting correctly on my cheek bones, it's clear as a bell.

Can I suggest http://www.elitedangerousvoicepack.com/ ? I personally bought the A.S.T.R.A Pack and I'm loving it...so much that I've ordered a "Personalized Pack" with her. It work with Voice Attack, it add a girl robot sound to your command (they have other type of voice too). It take a while to setup properly but when you're done..wow! Most of their pack are made for Elite and Voice Attack. For example, If I say "Thruster 50%" it will send the normal command through Voice attack but I will also get an answer from the girl AI saying "Confirmed, commander. Thruster at 50%". The amount of customization you can do with this is insane. They also have a nearly full market, galaxy and ship description. They put lots of work in this and it shows. Good example of what it does with Voice Attack --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRVCkUN_Mq8&feature=youtu.be&t=8m38s&hd=1

Cheers guys. Couldn't post because it would not keep me signed in for some reason.

ive used voice attack and astra for awhile, it adds alot to the immersion and definetly helps playing with the RIFT.

Been tweaking with settings - with reshade, better strap positioning as mentioned, and IPD / colour adjustments, its now smooth and a good 40 - 50% clearer.

That Vox Machinae looks absolutely awesome. Cant wait to see more from them, its got me and all my mechwarrior buddies exceptionally hyped.

For anyone interested, im running this using the following card on mostly medium settings and its smooth, a little less so in stations but no sick juddering. Thought you guys might be interested, since its an ATI card and its performed absolutely fine with the rift, despite what ive heard about the web.

SAPPHIRE Radeon R9 290 Vapor-X Tri-X OC 4GB

Kind of terrified what the commerical one will need out of a system - part of me is hoping we ll either get some super powerful single card, sli and its equiv gets sorted out, or the software drastically improves.

I think there's a bit of blood left to squeeze out of this generation of video cards. Nvidia's working on a bunch of vr-specific improvements I hear, and they're trying to improve SLI for VR. I bet when the Rift launches in 2016 we'll have either that or a new card generation.
