Newcomer / Intro Locked on systems on the radar?

I notice when I set a route to a system, aligning to the system can be a bit disorienting. From what I can tell, even though I lock the system, I can't see the direction on my radar. Am I missing something or do I really have to spin around until I find the direction?

Once your destination sustem is locked. use the Compass (little circle with a dot) to orient your ship.
A hollow dot is a point behind you a full dot is in front.
You will see the name of the targeted system on your hud (front windshield) and the range to said system.

edit: As above..

Next to the radar is a smaller circle, top left. It's referred to as a compass and is how you locate some things in game. When it's just an outline the object is behind you.

You'll figure it out quicker than I can explain.
