Lore Question: Marines In Elite

I have a quick lore question: do the militaries of the superpowers have Marines (or naval infantry as the case may be). And by Marines, I don't mean as they are used in the present day (as in a second Army), but as they were more traditionally used: conducting boardings and surface landings, providing security for the ship in general and the captain in particular, participating in naval battles as professional soldiers in aiding the defense of the ship. And if the Elite universe has Marines, is there any canon on their naming (i.e Imperial Naval Infantry, Federal Star Marines, Alliance Defence Force Marine Corps, etc etc). Thanks in advance.

Yes they do. Early GalNet articles refer to infantry forces being involved in battles in space stations. There's not been anything like this for a while though.

In terms of the naming, first check the GalNet articles, then check the official fiction (And Here The Wheel includes some references but I can't remember what they are; other books may too but again I can't remember). The short-story fiction for Frontier: Elite 2 and Frontier: First Encounters (which you can find online with a little searching) includes many more references to infantry. Jaques the cyborg who has the space station now in the Eol Prou region aka Colonia was in the Imperial military (I think) and other stories refer to Imperial clone troops, or the use of genetic enhancements.

There's plenty there, do some digging and I think you'll find some really interesting stuff. I'd like to know what you find out so please report back :)
