Newcomer / Intro Low Temp Diamonds question

Tried my hand at mining today. Took awhile to figure it out. I kitted out an AspX for void opals, never found any. But I went to a LTD hotspot and found one pretty fast. I noticed the asteroid didnt have any fissures though.

How do you get the LTD's off the asteroid? My abrasion blaster didnt work. I flew back to a station to outfit correctly in case I see more of those. I hate to pass them up.

Abrasion blasters only work for surface deposits and core deposits which are revealed by seismic blasting of fissures.

Most likely you encountered a "sub-surface" LTD deposit. The only way to mine these is with a "Sub-surface displacement missile" which drills into the roid surface and releases the minerals. They are awkward to use, but worth equipping for those occasions. The AspX has enough hardpoints to equip all the mining tools you'll ever need, so grab the displacement missile.

Ahh ok, didn't know about those kinds of missiles. Thanks(y) for the info.

No probs. Watch one of the many Y-toob vids. The Disp Missile can be a pain to use, but once you nail it, it can give you those extra LTDs.
"Pain to use" is an understatement in some ships.
I've one mounted on the upper right back of my T9. I'm aiming by the upper rail of my cockpit.
Same with the depth charges, but those ones at least fly straight when you shoot them. :D
