LRH 3305 Expedition (Beagle --> Bubble via Sagittarius-Carina Arm)

Greetings Cmdrs!

Overview:
Fresh off my first trip to Beagle Point and the far side of the galaxy via the amazing Distant Worlds 2 Expedition - I am planning a much less direct - slower paced - and yes - much longer - route home...I am hoping there are some other commanders out there with the same general concept in mind - and that we can band (loosely) together and make an expedition of it as well...

The concept for LRH (Long-er Route Home) Expedition grew from thinking about an indirect, outer galactic arm return at the conclusion of DW2 3305 (Distant Worlds 2) - then learning about the previous DECE 3303 Circumnavigation Expedition and building route and POIs from there...Also referenced were the Sagittarius-Carina Mission waypoints, notable EDSM POIs and the monstrous (and as yet uncompleted) "Pilgrimage" POIs list (Nrs. 326-354) and blended all routes together in the most straight-line fashion...Being a less travelled part of the galaxy - the majority of waypoints and basecamps are taken straight from the DECE route (credits in expedition forum post #3)...There is a reference spreadsheet - where you can see the relationship of common waypoints between the various expeditions...

Primary Expedition Goals:
1) Document any new biological or geological phenomenon now detectable via latest DSS Sensor technology
2) Completely scan every F/G/K System visited for Galactic Metallicity Project
3) Scan all detected gas giants to identify & map Metallic or Metal-Rich ring systems to aid Galactic Rescue Services in finding Life Support Synthesis material to mine
4) Explore! Explore! Explore! Hopefully add to the Galactic Mapping Project / EDSM Inventory of unique and spectacular places to visit!

The LRH 3305 expedition will be completed by Commanders reaching the Achrende system in the Bubble - however the route can be completed in three (3) ways:

Route 1 - (Long-ish Road Home): 1st 2/3 Follow DECE - then "straight" return to Bubble via Sagittarius-Carina Mission Waypoints - mainly along the Centaurus Reach (@ 115 kLy to complete - @ 75% of waypoints)

Route 2 - (Long-er Road Home): [Original Concept] Complete DECE Waypoints between Beagle Point and Bubble: Outer Sag-Carina and Perseus Arms / Galactic Extremities (@ 155 kLy to complete - @ 75% of waypoints)

Route 3A - (Long-erer Road Home): All V2 Waypoints - then back track outwards on Centaurus Reach - and return to Bubble via V1 / Sagittarius=Carina Mission waypoints (@ 194 kLy - 100% of waypoints)

Route 3B - (Long-est Road Home): All Waypoints - first 2/3 DECE as all other routes -then back track on Centaurus Reach (Sag-Carina) - then southern end of DECE - and finally last loop of Sag-Carina and return to Bubble (@ 201 kLy - 100% of waypoints)

Starting System: Beagle Point (Beagle Station)
Starting Date: May 7, 2019 (ED Date: May 7, 3305)

Ending System: Achrende
Ending Date: March 14, 2020 (ED Date: March 14, 3306) - "Pi Day"

These DECE 3303 Cmdrs / contributors' work was used for the Basecamp links of the LRH 3305 expedition...I hope that we find at least a few spots worthy of inclusion for future expeditions in following in their footsteps:

Arnoldo
Chankk Saotome
Cruento Macrone
Henkka77
Nimdok
Trevor Goodchild
WheezyPlatypus

(Please let me know if I have left anyone else off from the DECE 3303 team)

This will likely ever be an incomplete list - will do my best to maintain / update - other acknowledgements to follow...

Ooh, that'll be a lot of fun (although I can't join myself, already going the other way around). The step out to the tenebris is a tough one, but it's worth it, some tremendous sights out there.

Good luck, and enjoy yourselves!

I was thinking along the lines of this, but not as long as this.
Well you don't have to make all the POIs - I can also make the "final" waypoint something closer to the Bubble - that way people can still "complete" even if they decide to skip a section...

I am just trying to put together an interesting series of waypoints for myself - and if there are other Cmdrs looking for some more exploration ideas and who aren't blasting straight back to the Bubble - I am hoping that some will join me...

I'm definitely down for this! Only caveat is that I'm still to reach Beagle (just crossed WP11), so if there's not time tables, and you don't mind me lagging a few days behind you, then sign me up! I'll try make up ground and catch up once I get to Beagle. I've been very slowly progressing my way there scanning every system I jump to.

Ship: Krait Phantom (Galactic Driftwood) 72.09LY range near empty (67.6LY with full tanks)

Excellent! Welcome aboard - our fleet size just doubled! Your Krait has very similar jump ranges to my Anaconda - a few of the POIs I have listed will need longer jump ships to reach....

No - speed is definitely NOT one of the prime factors for this route - I have a travelling sales position for work - so I may only get 3-4 hours in per week (mostly weekends or early weekdays if not travelling) - as we get more people on the roster (don't think we will get THAT big) - then we can discuss target dates for meetups round schedules / vacations etc...

OK - I have amended the planned route - so that "final waypoint / completion" is a more direct return to the Bubble - and will make the "outer / remote" WPs "lower numbered" so they are not necessary (if we can get a 10 Cmdr quorum - then we can post on EDSM and we'll be able to see the stats of how many made it to each of the WPs) - This way everyone can set their own "Space Madness" limits if it gets too much....

Let me know what you think...

Although I fully intend to do the entire original proposed route (I've never been on that side of the galaxy, so the entire list of waypoints is new space for me), having flexibility is always a good thing. I should arrive at Beagle this weekend, so looks like just in time for this. Hopefully we do get at least the 10 CMDR minimum for quorum with EDSM. I really like to follow my progress there.

Ok so we need a few things to prove we're committed:

  • Official name and abreviation
  • Discord channel in same name or abbreviation
  • Player group or one approved for use inside Mobius
  • Squadron for in game comms for the whole journey
  • Sign up sheet to log all CMDR's taking part with a time frame for starting

Official Name: Long-er Road Home 3305 (as per thread)

Discord Channel: ‘LRH3305’ server is already created - just have not done anything past that - focusing on filling roster (6/10) & completing POI / Waypoints (may also ask FleetCom if we may have a subchannel - but that is more a ‘plan b’)

Player Group: I would suggest Mobius Factions in case / hoping we have some Cmdrs from Eurasia join for a truly international expedition (depending on who joins - could potentially ask FleetCom if we are also welcome there?)

Squadron: Am traveling for work - will be home late tonight- but will create (I will amend 1st thread asking for in game player names (can be sent by PM if you don’t want to share public...probably best for ‘expedition security’)

Sign up sheet: as I expect this to remain ‘small’ - I think I can deal with PMs or replies - and will update post 2 of this thread...

Forgot to add: we need to know everyone’s Time Zone to try and coordinate meetups

Other:
Once we have a full roster - we can schedule a Discord chat to discuss the ‘pace’ brtween waypoints - I was thinking every 3 weeks (I believe I have Waypoints spaced @ 10KLY apart) - but also want to take holidays : vacations etc into account - so ‘leisurely- but thorough’ exploration can be done - as I think we will be in one of the lesser-explored parts of the galaxy. (Unofficially- I hope that each and every one of us gets to add a registered POI to the GMP)

Ok - that’s it for now - please keep suggestions coming- I do want this to be a group effort and thank you for wanting to join up - we will allnhave some stories to tell!!

Dunno how exactly that works.
"If you need to organize a new expedition, feel free to contact us over Discord or Twitter.
A minimum of 10 participants is required in order to import the expedition. "
So yeah, best is to talk to them^^
Also, fleetcomm used to provide channels for expeditions on their discord.

Still does.
The minimum roster is simply there to filter out the potentially countless solo/private expeditions.
