If you're going to quote the prophet please get the name correct.
I'm normally not a about these sorts of things, but we are talking about the prophet here.
That would be Autocorrect doing what it does best....

As I said above, MMO does not mean forced interactions.
And as you well know, PvP does not mean constant "pew-pew".
2 people on opposite teams (or 50 on each team) working against each other are doing player versus player (PvP) without ever firing a shot.
Wasn't a "sticking point", it was a selling point.
No matter the platform or mode, we all share and all have access to everything.
"I" don't want anything other than fair play, so if my content gets taken away from me because you don't like me having it in PGs (or Solo), then it should also be taken away from your precious open mode as well. And the fairest way to do that is to make PP its own mode like CQC is its own mode.
This whole argument is just gankers trying to justify ways to funnel more dedicated haulers as targets in Open. They use this sort of obfuscation to hide their true aims. They come up with plausible arguments to push their agenda because the truth would convince nobody. This sort of dissimulation, disinformation and propaganda has the best chance of maybe convincing somebody in a place of power.
Open Only PP was more of a suggestion after the problems with 5c reached it's peak, at this point I think most PP players just want an overhaul of the gameplay mechanics themselves to make 5c ineffective but some think Open Only can solve it as well. (I do not, not fully at least)
I agree. Maybe it should be abolished entirely, but some people keep beating on this drum years later and they are all just basic gankers trying to scare up some easy targets.

Which is what has got Powerplay into its hole, and is being buried by the BGS and its changes.
It indeed was a selling point- however Powerplay straddles too much and stretches too many problems at once. Add to that the BGS doing pretty much the same these days its getting harder to justify PPs existence without it shifting its purpose.
Which would break the 'shared' galaxy point, just as open breaks the shared modes. Its up to FD to judge based on numbers what is more important, if anything.

Well, the problem is Frontier.
Despite the wealth of gaming history that proves you cannot make one game that suits everybody, they decided Elite: Dangerous was going to be the one that does it.
Those who enjoy story-driven content are not exactly swimming in the content on Galnet.
Roleplayers... are a weird bunch who are never happy so I'm going to skip over them
PvP has too many ways to be avoided for PvP to mean anything. And CQC is the poor stepchild of PvP in ED.
Explorers after about a month have basically seen everything the random generator will make.
I'm mainly a trader, so A-B-A or rare trade runs are okay. I can sit in my T9 or Cutter all day moving stuff about.
It's about the only thing they've gotten right imo.
Frontier needs to pick what community they want and get on with it.
Because trying to please everyone isn't working and was never going to work.
I don't have a XBOX anymore and all my friends who do have Gold subscription.
So you are saying in an mode that is about explicit dominance and conflict people opting into the mode willingly who kill other pledges are ganking?
I agree. Maybe it should be abolished entirely, but some people keep beating on this drum years later and they are all just basic gankers trying to scare up some easy targets.
Oh, not these tired old ideas again. Seriously, get a life. Stop worrying about how other people enjoy the game. This would make playing in open meaningful. Players should not be able to "hide" from opponents of their actions in Power Play or BGS.
- Blocking should just block chat and not impact instancing
- Power Play numbers for the powers only impacted by actions in Open. Still allow merits to be earned in Solo/PG that influence the players rank and nothing else (Maybe bonus for doing in open)
- BGS factions only impacted by actions in Open. Still allow players to gain rep for actions in Solo/PG (Maybe bonus for doing in open)
For those who wish to play in PG or Solo, they're still able to get everything they can get that influences only them (merits, powerplay modules, faction rep).
It is a sign of mental illness to get hung up on the activities of people who play in a different mode than you.
I'm amazed at the solo/group players who get bent out of shape on the PvP forum because ganking happens - in a mode they never visit.
I'm equally amazed at the open players who get bent out of shape that someone in solo/group play delivered a load of ore without getting molested.
The truth is that what people are doing in modes you never play is really... and I'll say this gently as I can... it is really none of your freakin' business.
Like. At. All.
Bunch of pansy control freaks.
FDev have described Powerplay as 'consensual PvP' themselves so indeed you should expect to be attacked & blown up. However, priority wise they need to fix the core mechanics to make 5C virtually impossible and there are solutions to achieve that which have been muted often. Open Only (& hopefully cross platform) Powerplay would be nice but they got to fix the gameplay and mechanics first imho.

Where this falls down is in Powerplay though. Take this example: a prep race for a system with two or more powers racing to deliver the most to earn that expansion next week.
With all modes PP its a straight hauling race, which comes down to who can deliver the most.
In ideal circumstances (network /unique blocking rules etc for PP) you then have the situation of a race where you can throw bananas under the wheels of the opponent, since you know any rival pledge is potentially delivering to one singular place. This in turn necessitates better, faster delivery ships and top cover. In this way a simple grind gains an extra dimension.
1: Your last line "a simple grind gains an extra dimension" makes sense to you but the fact is that many, many players don't want what you'd consider to be an extra dimension. These players consider dealing with gankers to be the real grind in the game.
2: Both factions in a power play struggle are going to have solo/group players hauling in unreachable instances. If that isn't a wash (both sides doing about the same work) then perhaps the losing faction should up their political game and get some solo/group players who are into heavy duty PvE to join their faction. With this system, those solo/group players aren't disposable, but rather, resources that a winning faction needs to entertain. Factions that cater only to the PvP crowd should lose hard.
3: Your definition of Power Play is basically limited to blowing people up; however, this game does cater to the PvE/Exploration/Mining crowd. Like it or not, they've an equal share of the universe and you're going to have to include them in your calculations. I've told many 'carebears' that if they don't like PvP then maybe they need to explore a new title - well, what is good for the goose is good for the gander, if you don't like the PvE component and the impact it has on Power Play you may need to explore a new title.
4: Solo/Group play isn't the problem, the problem is the expectation that some players have to set up comprehensive blockades or to win battles simply by ganking undergeared ships. Even without Solo/Group play a simple block list/instancing issues would keep any of that happening with any real impact anyways. In short, the game steps on your ideal in multiple layers - it really is built into the core of the game.
I'd recommend that your faction up its political game.
Court PvE haulers instead of viewing everyone without a pimped out Corvette as a total waste of time.
Maybe the policy of "kill everything that ain't us" was never intended to be rewarded by the game?
