Mamba Speed Fix When??

Its faster.

It's a bit faster than an FdL, depending on your loadout.
My Mamba is a whopping 10m/s faster than my FdL, both built for PvE combat.

I doubt that's enough of an advantage to offset the extra 200 integrity and extra 200MJ of shield (from the same shield generator, btw) that the FdL has and convince people it's an equally good choice.

Which army?
I wasn't aware of any "The Army" that means the same to everyone, though considering the mention of Lamborghini, I should probably assume Italian... Does Italy even have a standing army?

Given the price, there's only one area of the world that can afford to let squaddies drive lamborghinis. ;)

It doesn't need to be equal. The FDL's a great ship for FDL'ing, but I'm enjoying change for the sake of change by flying a Mamba. Just as much fun similar but different and requires a different approach.

EDIT : the huge slot is just asking for me to slap a long range cannon into it as well

It is too fast fully engineered already. Sometimes, at least. But definitely when collecting mats in a hazres :D

However it may be, IIRC they said they'll implement another buff in the next patch. Then we can judge.

O7,

I have found the FDL to be superior in combat, but I adore the styling and sounds of the Mamba.

A big fat luxury passenger slot would make it interesting for elite passenger missions. Too bad the jump range is so awful...

+1 but also... a ship kit would be nice too, I know it just released but I'm sure the work on the cosmetics started well before last tuesday. I had hoped to possibly see something in the store today actually.

It runs cool though so you can refuel very quickly by doing flyby scooping and jump early.

It's not a racing ship, its not a racing prototype.

It is a combat ship based on a racing prototype.

It's supposed to be fast, but adding more speed does not make it a better combat ship.

It needs far better agility (would make it somewhat an FDL clone)
or
It needs much better armor/Shields (a medium heavy duty tanky attack ship)
or
More and larger internals. (Would make it more combat with utility, closer to Kraits/PYthon but more combat focused)

I've only just lightly engineered mine with what I had on hand and mainly remote engineering - hitting 535 and I have two an a half "levels" of engineering on the engines to go and weight to lose on the hull. I think north of 700 is likely by the time I'm finished
I outurn Thargoid scouts with ease (mix of fa on and off as always in combat for me in any ship).
I'm not see-ing a huge problem - fine if it gets more speed, but I think your flying it wrong ;p

edit - plus I'm glad it handles nothing like an FDL -a truly horrible ship - Mamba runs rings round it.

Even with FA off the mamba feels sluggish like a conda, which I agree with you is nothing like the FDL. But mamba run rings around the FDL?? You put the FDL in the right spot and the mamba wont even find it.

I see a contradiction here - "engine with guns" vs. "hull tank". Choose one, but choose wisely. We already have more than enough hull tanks.

I don't know whether he speed/mass curve is fixed (or what it depends upon), but I could see something that could reach ludicrous speed as long as you keep it below minimum mass, but then drops rapidly for every ton you exceed it. Like a larger iCourier.

You misunderstood. You don’t have to “choose”. The Clipper is both fast and a hull tank. What I was saying is the Mamba can’t effectively use SCBs, so it’s still a valid choice to use Prismatics but you end up with the choice of using underpowered/too small SCBs that can be cancelled by Feedback Cascade Rails and don’t provide enough shield gen anyway (not a good choice) or going ahead and loading up on hull hitpoints which gives you about 2400 Shields and 2400 hull. Since that’s the highest you can get hull wise and still be fast (even with a Bi Weave and no banks), it makes more sense to go all in with a Prismatic/Hull Tank with no SCBs.

The FDL takes practice to fly well, give the Mamba the same chance I'm teetering on the brink of preferring it.

Tell it like it is, Krash! :D
I bought a Mamba because it looks so cool, but now I am wondering how much I will actually fly the thing, and what the point of it is really.

That's the main issue for me.

It's kind of like proclaiming the Ford RS200 was a "racing prototype" and then discovering that it doesn't do anything better than Vauxhall Astra or VW Golf of the same era.

The Mamba probably should have compromises if we consider it's origins HOWEVER, in practical terms, if it's intended to be a viable alternative for the FdL it needs to be able to compete with the FdL on even terms.

That's not to say it should have the same strengths and weaknesses as the FdL but it should have it's own features which present the player with a viable choice.

Right now, the only reason to fly a Mamba is if you don't actually like the FdL and you're prepared to accept a ship that's objectively worse instead.
And that's not a good reason to choose a ship.
Which makes the effort taken to design and implement it a waste of time.

Sticking with the theme of being a "racing ship", the Mamba should almost DEFINITELY be lighter than the FdL.
Maybe racing in the 34th century also involves inter-system travel, in which case maybe the Mamba should have a larger FSD than the FdL too?
Also following the racing theme, maybe it should use less juice to boost, like the Krait does as well?

In a nutshell, right now the Mamba is a bigger target than the FdL with nothing to compensate the player for that disadvantage.
It needs some advantage of it's own.

Very well said. Have some rep.
