man this game is hard with out VA

awoke this morning and my voice has vanished into the black. having to learn to control things via KB is harder than I thought it would be.

may have to put game away, for a while. already lost my ship twice. :O

Simple Bypass: Record your orders next time your voice is back, and bind each order to a key so that it is played when you Need it... oh wait... nvm :D

Better Option: Start going to classical concerts instead of heavy metal.

KB+M player here. I find its not that bad. Just a matter of acclimatizing.

As is the case with getting good at anything: practice.

Can't get better by not using it.

i dont understand why people use voice commands in this game. it's easy enough as it is to fly with mouse.

i don't even understand why people buy HOTAS or joysticks and for it either.
using M is not being a pilot. we who use hotas ect, use it because its piloting. m is just a simple way to control.
using voice control add to the game. can do more than one thing at once.

Have you played the game with a HOTAS for several hours? It becomes intuitive very fast and as the game shows a CMDR using HOTAS controls it helps give a sense or immersion. If a M+K really were such great means of control then we'd of already seen cars, planes, bikes and ships all start to use them... Not sure I'd want to fly in a plane being flown with just M+K.

I did once write to Top Gear and ask them to do a test of a normal car with normal controls v cars with a HOTAS, Gamepad and M+K... Then Clarkson punched a producer... :D

With my Laptop I use KB+M, on my Desktop PC I use HOTAS. I prefer the second as it helps the feeling of flying something.

For the love of god...there is no right way to play this game. This includes control set up. HOTAS isn't piloting either, because its a game. KB+M isn't any less valid than HOTAS. For some players, it might be preferred, or simply the only option. I don't want to/can't spend a couple hundred dollars just for a HOTAS that would be used for one game only. Not a worthwhile investment.

It's easy enough to play using a mouse. It's WAY more fun using a stick though. More fun still when you can shout out your orders in the heat of combat without the need to take your hands off the controls, and most fun of all playing in VR (where VA is indispensable). :D

No one is tying to persuade you to buy one. You said you didn't understand why anyone would use one. These are the reasons. :)

Precision, it allows me to use my whole body in combat and fly on muscle memory. Voice attack free's up capacity to perform other tasks, not to mention complex macros performed in milliseconds.

I appreciate many get on well with keyboard & Mouse, just doesn't cut it for me in the slightest, there is a reason we don't operate aircraft or cars via mouse and keyboard.

I bought VA months ago and I still can't figure out how to set it up to work with ED. I don't think I could play well without a joystick, allways was a controller/joystick person, fail so bad when it comes to just KB and Mouse.

Why not open up a thread on the forums asking for some help? Lots of people here use it and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you get it setup and working. :)

if you need some help with VA just ask bro :)
what's your problem?

To the OP and do not worry. I only use my mouse for the turret on my SRV. For all ship controls I use keyboard only. The entire QWERTY keyboard and numerous side buttons are all bound for different actions. Many of the key control bindings are taken from the original keyboard configuration for the very first Elite game. It gets easier with time.

you need to watch tutorial and edit a cmd to import you key-bindings if you haven't done
this it will not work. tutorial shows you how to do this!
tutorial is located in you dl vp pack!

Take a look at Roccat PowerGrid, if you have a tablet or phone you can use.

It's a great companion for Elite, and has removed my need to remember any of the keyboard commands.

I use it with VoiceAttack, largely because I find VA's voice recognition very hit and miss.

clarkson when just starting out as broadcast journalist did drive a car with two handles for controls instead of a steering wheel.
