Marooned Again Due to Isolated Detention Centre

I'd like to suggest a review of the Pilgrim's Ruin detention centre in HR 3005 and the surrounding systems.

I've been operating outside the bubble in the Pencil Sector EL-Y D5 system and any infractions result in my incarceration 200ly away at Pilgrim's Ruin. This would be all fine and a lesson well learned were it not for the fact that HR 3005 is so isolated that it is very easy to become stranded permanently (I am currently awaiting response to a support ticket due to my second offence).

The HR 3005 system itself contains only 2 stars and the detention centre megaship, Pilgrim's Ruin.

The only system within Apex transport range is Synuefe EN-H D11-96 which is 13.17ly away and that system has only two outposts and no planetary settlements or ports.

This means that if you are transported to HR 3005 with a ship whose jump range is less than 13.17ly, or if you are transported on foot, there is no way to escape those two systems without the help of other CMDRs.

Could I suggest consideration of the following solution:

1. Increase the range of Apex Interstellar Transport (the boring option, please don’t.)
2. Ensure remote systems like Synuefe EN-H D11-96 have an Odyssey accessible shipyard facility, to enable ship purchase and transfer, which would be supported by…
3. A minimal mission ecosystem in all populated systems to enable content and means to profit.

Personally, I’d like to see 2 and 3 to give that surviving-on-the-isolated-frontier feel.

[I documented my first, on-foot, marooned experience in this blogpost: Getting Marooned In Odyssey Was Almost Unscripted Gameplay Gold]

Strictly speaking, as long as you are detained with any ship at all, you aren't totally marooned there. As an absolute last resort you can board a megaship ferry and wait for the Thursday tick to be transported back to the bubble.

That said, I'm curious about exactly how you are getting yourself marooned. I think the configuration of that area - not unlike the regions surrounding some of the colonia highway way stations - is predicated on the idea that you somehow got there under your own power, and so you should be able to leave the same way. Obviously the existence of fleet carriers provides some ways to break that assumption, but I would think that rule of thumb would still generally hold true.

Update: now that I've had a chance to read your blog post, I think the answer here is unfortunately the least interesting one - you encountered a bug. When you were transported to the detention center, your current ship should have been brought there with you. I think that has since been patched, exactly because it was causing some hilarity as you described.

I don't think it's actually been fully patched yet, I still end up in jail without my ship if I'm killed on-foot while Wanted.

I think it'd be more interesting if you could hitch a ride with NPC transports (maybe negotiate a fee, or free depending on Faction rep). But that'd be more work.

My ship has a jump range of 4.7ly and the closest system is 13ly away. There are no fitting or shipyard services at the detention centre, so I am limited to that single system.

I am unaware of any megaship ferry that passes through this sector.

On this occasion I incurred a 100cr bounty by firing on the dropship that was dropping troops into a mission site. I could not access any services in the one available station and there was no available interstellar factor to pay this off and so I had no choice but to turn myself in.

Yes, it may well be a bug, and after my first shipless incarceration, I made sure on the second occasion I handed myself in while in a ship. Unfortunately, due to its poor jump range, the effect is essentially the same.

Yes, this would be a solution. However this particular circumstance has enabled me to discover that the maximum Apex transport range is less than the distance to the closest inhabited system with shipyard services.

4.7ly??? Jeez even my combat fdl has a better (not much) range than that. And it has a fsd a size smaller!
Get an A rated fsd go engineer it a tad with felicity. That's the problem. Crap fsd
I was only using this ship (an imperial eagle) to do Odyssey missions in-system. It was never intended for interstellar travel. I also have a ~50ly exploration Asp in system, but I couldn't access it once the bounty was incurred. I had no choice other than to turn myself in in the Eagle.

Easiest 'fix' that does not require work on game mechanics would be to add a megaship to the system that jumps regularly between the detention system and the nearest shipyard containing system. Not sure if megaships can have a shipyard but then that would be an even easier fix, having a megaship with a shipyard in the system that allows you to summon your own ships and maybe sells a sidewinder and a fuel scoop should you happen to have no ship to call.

I have needed to submit another support ticket due to this happening again. As a consequence, the support team have advised me to contribute to the following related issue on the issue tracker (which I have done):

They also asked for detailed information which I provided in the linked article in my OP and I can offer more visual coverage in this video highlight:

They also suggested I post on in the suggestions forum, but as I already have with this thread, here I am highlighting the issue again. :)

So from the outpost which is in range of Apex, are there any other systems in range of Apex?

Hmmm. Doesn't seem so...

Right. Time to stock up the FC with VERY expensive DBXs and set up shop. Emergent gameplay time.

Detention centers sell haulers and at least a d- rated fsd. Undersize/light-weight as much as you can and you should be fine. If jump range is still too low synth jumponium

Also you could

I would probably blame totalitarian Imperial regime for this crime. Neo-Marlinist Liberation Army knows your pain. Have you considered attacking a starport?

Good to see you're learning from your mistakes (y)

Oh no, wait - you're demanding the game change because you won't .... :(
I have modified my gameplay to reduce the likelihood of getting incarcerated, but the fact remains that my experience as documented shows that a number of gameplay loops lead to irreversible dead ends, which I'm sure was not intended.

I'm not 'demanding' changes, I'm suggesting changes because this is the suggestions forum, and I was directed here by Frontier support agents.

Cunning. One man's misery is another man's opportunity. :)
