Mass Purchase of Imperial Slaves

"A large number of Imperial slaves have been purchased by Tilbery Construction to work on a building project on Eotienses A 3.

CEO Garrett Kline explained that the company lacks the personnel required to meet the project’s deadline, and was therefore forced to seek an alternative workforce."

Next CG?

So a multiple CG then:
  • Deliver Imperial Slaves.
  • Liberate Imperial Slaves.
  • Protect the slaveships.
  • Assassinate Garrett Kline.
  • Protect Garrett Kline.

Looks as the classical 1on1 situation... Tilbery Construction vs Unchain Charity

"Tilbery Construction, a company based in the Eotienses system, has attracted attention following the purchase of four thousand Imperial slaves.

Garrett Kline, the company’s CEO, explained:

“Tilbery Construction recently won a contract to build a new water treatment facility on Eotienses A 3, serving the city of Port Isabelle. We are a young company and have not yet acquired the personnel required to meet the ambitious deadline. An alternative workforce was therefore required.”

The anti-slavery charity Unchain has lodged a formal protest with authorities in Eotienses. A spokesperson told the media:

“Gathering a large number of Imperial slaves in one place brings enormous risk. Conditions are often poor when transporting people in such numbers, which would violate the terms of their indentured servitude.”

“We are also concerned with the lack of information regarding Tilbery Construction and Garrett Kline, who appears to have no experience managing such projects.”

That doesn't sound right. A CG would result in the transportation of millions of imperial slaves. What kind of water treatment facility needs that many unskilled workers? Though two competitive CGs with one transporting imperial slaves as freight and with regular workers as passengers sounds nice.

See, and that's just a plain-old setup for "Good guys vs Bad guy".... with "Unchain" being the good guys, and "Tilbery" being the bad guys. Calling it already that Tilbery will lose that one.

Here's a way to make it grey:

Members of Unchain Charity sabotage and destroy a transporter containing 400 Imperial Slaves, citing "Death is preferable to bondage". <insert fluff around that core concept here>

That way... who do you support? Those who would continue to support Imperial values with the purchase of slaves, or those who would massacre innocents, in the name of preserving liberty?

Good question, but what if Tilbery developing a special water-cooler thingy for energy weapons, what you can apply for your favourite Cobra / Python / Anaconda? Who will support anti-slavery then?

So a choice between helping produce more and better weapons or helping people escape paying off their debts?

I reread the news.
They are importing 4.000 imperial slaves. Given that the system has a billions of people that doesn't sound much.

Possible CGs could be:
Building material for Tilbery Construction + protect against pirates (standard)
Building material for Tilbery Construction + hunting freighters for Unchain (pirates, ready for boarding).

Or something completely different of course.

So which one of these is a Player owned faction that submitted the player CG...
To get the item built..

Unchain and Tilbery is currently unknown factions. None of them are PMF.

Just a pale hope that not the simple and plain Alliance half-split is the next II event. Maybe this or the Gan Romero line. Somehow.

Looks like y'all been a bit harsh on Tilbery - they were the good guys after all ;)

Imperial Slaves Freed by Activists
15 JUN 3305

A company that purchased 4,000 Imperial slaves has revealed itself as a slavery emancipation group.

Using the name Tilbery Construction, the group claimed that the slave workforce would be used to build a water treatment facility for Port Isabelle, the capital of Eotienses A 3. Instead, the slaves were transported outside the city and set free.

The individual acting as the company’s CEO, Garrett Kline, made the following statement:

“The true purpose of Tilbery Construction was to provide liberty. As members of the group Autonomy, we renounce institutionalised abuse and fight for human dignity. I am proud to say that we have returned four thousand enslaved people to freedom, so they may live their life however they wish.”

Autonomy is a network of radical activists opposed to the Empire’s tradition of indentured servitude. It has forcibly liberated slaves on several prior occasions, but never on such a scale.

They closed down this storyline, also Kincaid detained on the other. My only tip left for II2 is the Gan Romero storyline.

I'd still throw my previous suggestion out there... would've made for an intriguing plot line for the Unchain group to have destroyed a ship with a boatload of slaves on board.

I also thought we could have a little Alliance civil war.
But while the search for Gan Romero could start with an explorer CG I don't see the next steps.

So now all these guys have been hired but have no actual job so are still in debt. Good job CEO Kline for misunderstanding the poorly named Imperial Slave system.

The way I presume it works is that debtors have their creditors paid off by the state (by a "Debt Clearance Ministry"?) so the creditor is happy, but the state then gets to sell your labour to a corporation that requires labour - thus clearing the debt and reimbursing the ministry.

Is it right therefore that by buying slaves and freeing them, you are just perpetuating the system as the money has already changed hands? What the "slaves" do is immaterial for the system to work?

The (presumably) well sourced elite wiki states:
They are often Imperial citizens seeking social mobility or supporting their families. Thus, unlike slaves, Imperial Slaves having free will and self determination as does any Imperial citizen cannot be 'stopped' or 'freed' as they will willingly return to their employment choice.
It'll be interesting to see whether these imperial slaves go back to Tilbery demanding their work contract be fulfilled.
