Master Thread for My Exploration Questions

I guess I'm supposed to be using one thread to post my various questions? It's a Forum, the threads don't nest, so I guess I just have to hope that a person or 2 will scan the thread for when I have a new question they may provide feedback, tips, or answers on. shrug
So, here's my first question for this thread:

How can I find out what this bright object in the middle of my display is? I think it may actually be a star cluster. Can't target it, have no idea if it's 1 or 10,000 systems away. Is there any way I can possibly head that direction and try to explore it??
Thanks for any feedback!

The answer is in the previous post but in general to work it out.

Pick a system at random, see where it is in relation to your ship, check GalMap to see which 'direction' it is and this helps tell you which way your ship is pointing. Find a star roughly 'ahead' of you in GalMap and check in cockpit view that its in 'front' of you. When you have the direction back to GalMap and move the map round so its a straight line then focus in and out and follow the line to see whats in the distance.

^^ Old school navigation. That brings back the memories! :D

I think there was a misunderstanding, when I gave you a friendly advice, that it would be better to use one thread. I was not demanding you to do so,I was friendly, polite and to avoid misunderstanding, I put smileys in my post...

However, I am not a mod and you are an adult, Im sure you can figure out what is the best way to make friends on the forum and to keep people happy while helping you... Also, Im sure so far you cannot really complain, all the people here were always super helpful and super supportive...

So far, in less than a month, you have started almost 50 new threads, many of them with really basic questions, that were already discussed plenty of times here, or that were questions/topics that would be best asked in the relevant thread already opened for that topic...

Im not here to tell you what to do and if my humble request to keep the Exploration forum a bit more tidy, so that some really intreresting threads do not get burried that fast, hurt your feelings, please just ignore me... I am a forum member, just like you, no obligation to follow my advices...

Fly safe, commander! (y)

I can't speak as a mod of this particular forum, but as a forum veteran and as a moderator of a forum elsewhere on the internet, I can offer this advice:

As a general rule, if the questions are all closely linked or related in some way, or it's a logical chain of follow-up questions, then it's usually best to put them all in one thread. But if they're all different questions about different topics, then you're probably better off posting separate threads, with titles that are designed to attract the attention of people who might be best equipped to answer. If you try to run a single huge question mega-thread that ends up running to dozens of pages, it can be difficult to tell which questions have already been answered.

"Exploration" is a very broad topic, and can mean different things to different people (see elsewhere for the perennial debates about what "true exploration" is), so is perhaps less suitable for a mega-thread.

Yup - old school navigation is fun navigation. This is how I found my first ever planetary nebula (a green one, for the record), on my first big trip out towards Beagle point.

I saw a tiny little green smudge and was wondering what the heck that was. I did pretty much as per Vetinari's instructions, and voila, I found m'self in the middle of my first planetary nebula. Awesome!.
