"Material drops at settlements provide only one item instead of three. This is intended"

Get ready: nerf inbound LOL!

This isn't a nerf, it's the reversal of a previous buff. One has to assume FDev have balanced material requirements against availability. If it's currently too easy to accumulate mats (according to their internal plan) this change makes sense (to them). It it becomes too hard it can be adjusted again, or the requirements can be changed.

It makes more sense to me that we collect one item & the recepies are adjusted than the other way around. That said, this change is at odds with giving us much larger mats bins in 3.0. Seems a bit overkill.

The settlement data nerf is ridiculous.

Go ahead and nerf Dav's hope, that's fine. It's kind of silly to begin with. But if I do a settlement scan for MEF and I only get 1 data per drop, it's not worth it (It's not like you get cash or anything else from settlement scans except maybe Wanted status).

I can only think of one word to describe this news: sadistic

Totally agreed. The intent here on Frontier's part is just terrible.

I'll repost here what I said about it in the update thread:

Material drops at settlements provide only one item instead of three.

  • This is intended.

You have GOT to be fracking kidding me???!!!!?!!??! What happened to making things more accessible? Frontier, please stop punishing your players by increasing grinds, just STOP.

What happened to THIS statement?

Seriously. Decisions like this are a huge reason for a lot of the negativity in the community. The direction needs to change, right quickly I might add.

Stop trying to force everyone to play a very specific way and be more open to letting us play the way we want to. Please.

Right, because G5 mod's only use G5 mat's and hardly ever stuff like HD Composites, Configurable Components, Compound Shielding, Chemical Manipulators, Conductive Ceramics or Conductive Polymers.

Okay, so there's over a hundred G5 mod's that those mat's are used for but who's counting, eh?

Besides, the mat' traders mean that instead of farming Dav's Hope we'll be able to spend even longer looking for HGEs so we can collect the stuff and take it to the traders and swap it for the things we used to be able to get for ourselves.

Perfect.

This is why I collect everything. Some gotcha with the engineer will need what you have flushed.

At first i laughed out loud, now im merely giggling :) Thats a mighty big assumption pardner.
Unless of course they do know whats up.
I hit new posts and saw a thread titled "Punishment". At first i thought it was about the RNGineers, but it turned out to be about the new C&P system.

How so? Didn't you make the same assumption when you bought the game? If it's out of whack with where they think it should be, it'll be changed. This one is actually reverting an earlier buff. We may see commodities return to some recipes too, they were removed as a workaround for another problem, which is presumably on the list to get fixed.

Lots of overreaction in this thread. I can understand why people are complaining, many players expect to be able to quickly progress & accumulate all the gear & buffs. I don't think FDev see it the same way. I know I don't :) In a game where most of the content is based around progression, it should require effort to obtain everything. Maybe just do the stuff you think you can do & accept that the next guy might be more tenacious than you. Or keep trying, it's up to you :)

The only progression I care about after 3500+ hours of play is that which directly relate to my flying skills. If I feel like complaining about an arbitrary grind wall being placed between me and what I actually want to do in this game, I'm not going to let the professional non-achievers nor the bean counters in the main offices at Frontier stop me from doing so.

Nobody is making you do it jasonbarron, just don't do the grind. Organise a E-rated Eagle PvP contest or something, think outside the box.

No i didnt. I bought the game guessing that it was unfinished and had some bugs. Thats the assumption i make with every game i buy, based on my experience with PC games in general. I did make the assumption of good faith on the part of the dev team and management to make an effort to fix those bugs and listen to their player base.

Well FDs idea of "progression" seems to me sometimes to be actually obstructing game play and deliberately making useless grind where there doesnt need to be any.

Sometimes i think they are just stalling for time because they are having trouble coming up with or implenting new ideas.
So you think this change in material drops is a good idea? You dont think enough effort is spent already by players on the RNGineers easter egg hunt?

Is FD paying you to schill? If not you should give them a call and make some sort of arraingment, people do get paid for that sort of thing, it used to be called astroturfing.

I think it makes sense that if you see one thing on the ground (or floating in space) & you pick it up you have just collected one thing, not three. If you collect three things then you have three. That makes sense to me.

Arguably the recipes could be be rebalanced, arguably the drop rate could be increased, but I don't think this change is a problem, no. It's reverting back from a previous buff to it's presumably intended state.

That answers that question then. Ty :)

I do wonder

People liked Dav's Hope etc as it was time effective ?

There is a planned change, why not do the next best thing like-high material paying missions now they are more common and electable as payment ?

Why then say "oh doing Dav's Hope full take so much longer now" choosing to carry on with the now less effective option.

If you were going to a system with famine to get to go to the distribution centers for wake scanning, and that famine ended, would you;
A) Stay in the system complaining you cannot find distribution centers?
or
B) Go to the next nearest system in a famine with distribution centers?

also Remember that originally data scans and material collection was for 1 item at a time, and blue prints needed multiples of each material
Over time it was increased to three per collection AND then the blueprints dropped to 1 of each material data needed, so perhaps it was a movement too far in collection materials and is a rebalance
