I have over 900 materials out of the 1000 allowed on board despite dumping hundreds of grades 1,2 and 3. Now I only keep 50 each of the common ones but still end up dumping loads, worse now since ED have upped the harvest from 1 to 3 units per hit in v2.1.05. I have tried not scooping them at all only keeping the ones I want and maybe I am wrong but it seemed to me that doing that cuts down on the amount of 4's and 5's being spawned at all. I spent two luckless hours today searching for Polonium available at 0.6% according to the scan and could have filled an Anaconda with what I dumped but not a hint of anything good. Lots of Chondrite and Outcrops and I found 5/6 instances of Mesosiderite, Metallic Meteor and Metallic Outcrop but other than Niobium of which I have 48 units zilch. I was looking at the material filters and wondering if it was worth a try in order to reduce the amount found. Has anyone used this option and does ticking the various boxes include or exclude that material in the search?.

You mean whether your cargo filters influence material drops? No.
But you can influence which rocks will spawn, to a certain extent, by only shooting the ones that you "want" and letting the other ones be.
Polonium will be most likeĺy found in Mezosiderites and Meteors, if you kee shooting those, after twenty minutes you'll get mostly only those.
It could be a coincinedce, but last time I did this, after the initial 20 minutes, I ended up finding 15 units of Technetium in half and hour.
