Engineers Medium Security Settlement List and Guide for Modified Embedded Firmware

Thanks for this list. I did 3 of them today and got 2 MEFs (so really 6) and some other assorted data. And a few million credits. Those maps are really helpful!

Repped.

what mean l1m?
m - medium security?
l1 ?
tsss... look in my signature=)
In other words - Large Industrial Medium Security
in sequence (Size)-(Layout type)-(Security Level)-{variation inside security level, if any}

g hell am I sick of this grind. I FINALLY got the pattern down on Burgess Holdings (first one ever, after 15+ tries), and managed to edge out the timer (find no MEF, figured...ehn, keep trying). So, I continued around the planet to Payne's Inheritance...landed a couple clicks away, dropped out and headed for the first data point...something shoots at the SRV, NO warnings, nothing. I race back to the ship and board back up...my        ' SHIP is now under attack by the gorram death-star turrets from the moment I take off - AGAIN NO warnings, no messages...just stripped the 5A shields in my Tradeconda in a few hits (4 pips to SYS), then tore the F%@K out of my hull before I could even point away from the horizon...rebuy in seconds. I was f%@king LOADED with hard-to-find commodities I was going to use to outfit a new FAS as soon as I had some FRACKING MEFs! ARGH!!

I bought Horizons, spent my time unlocking most of the Engineers, shuttling their damned rares for access, grinding them up to the max grade, searching/gathering/running missions for mats, driving this horrible, horrible travesty of a control-system moon buggy with no visibility around on countless worlds following a blipping semi-circle and shooting rocks until I was ready to just drop it for another year (just coming back, you see) - and figured I would give her one more go to buy/outfit a FAS with the new Engineer gear. After the first 3 times trying to perfect the run between data points, 2 of them I became irrevocably stuck on NOTHING in the SRV - unable to move, boost, ANYthing. The exterior cam showed my buggy floating a few feet off the ground in open air. I finally figured out how to self-destruct, and then had to fly back to a station to pick up another one to attempt again (twice).

All that I've wanted to do for the past couple weeks is work my way toward a FAS with a couple of G5 multis. Hell, I even managed to score a few Zirconium - this was my last step. Until there is a more SANE way to come by mats like the MEF, I think I'll just go back to reading the forums and taking another nice long break. Hell - if it wasn't for all of you geniuses doing the ridiculously convoluted legwork, most of us would have never even had a fighting chance at locating the damned things.

Anyhow - thank you all for an incredibly informative and helpful set of information, but thanks to the current state of things I just can't really think about 'spinning my wheels' on this any longer.

g hell am I sick of this grind.
Oh, I don't like grind myself, also I have impression that one of the reasons of the actual in-game "grind" mechanics is the side-effect result of the most effective grinders and "we are in a hurry" kind of players.
Yep, I perfectly understand your feelings. And with this mysterious attack on your ship - also.
But omitting this part of the discussion -
So far there is at least one somehow effective method to get some MEF's - post written by commander Dommarraa looks like the best proof of this.
Also, even your negative and very costly "experience" can produce some practical conclusions (and I'll try to figure out them as this is that minimum help that I can provide):
1) Unprovoked "shooting" without "warnings". This can be some unknown "glitch", but also there are some already known:
a) One or two times at the very beginning of my mapping experience I've encountered this when my ship was happen to be parked on the "usual" routes of defending skimmers (that is possible in some layouts).
The effect of collision between your ship (even parked) and a skimmer is very well known - and who will be accused as a criminal. There will be no warnings (case of zero-tolerance here)
b) With conda's (and probably with other ships of comparable size) there is at least one additional issue (see - my bug report here). Read my story there, there is no chance to re-board the ship, only some chance if you dismiss it instantly (in case of tradeconda) and sacrifice your srv. But at least here you've got "warnings".
So, for your security reasons:
a) avoid using large ships for DAP runs if possible (also take into account that sometimes there is no any place to land them in reasonable proximity of a settlement).
b) large ships - beware on landing of the trespass zone proximity
c) in case of real - or just suspecting - any kind of problems - dismiss your ship as fast as possible. Don't try to return to your ship and board it to fly it on your own - just dismiss - if you don't want to lost your valuable cargo and to see insurance screen with big sums awaiting to be paid.
2) SRV driving
a) Don't use "drive assist" in settlements. SRV is pretty difficult to handle in that mode.
b) practice
c) If you got stuck in something due to issues with game mechanics/graphics - you can reload to vanilla Elite instead of sacrificing your SRV and then back again.

Don't loose your hope.
Hope this helps
(at least for other commanders - something to be aware of)

I read somewhere that they only dropped from high security settlements...?

Either way, I've done enough of these to last me a lifetime. It's a shame because I initially enjoyed doing these settlements, they're a fresh experience(and can be challenging if you aim to disable the entire settlement) - but not seeing these things drop at all has ruined any and all motivation I had.

Hi was in exactly the same boat as you a few weeks back but try the S2M bases got plenty of MEF from there my friend.

I did a short video showing how to navigate the Industrial Layout type of base, and scan the data points in time. Maybe it will help someone :)

I have no idea what kind of glitch allowed it, but I ended up going to a medium security++ settlement and scanning all 4 data points without actually getting a bounty or fine on my head.

I wanted to find a new way to do this, more of a "bank job" approach than blowing everything up. I swooped over the settlement, took pictures overhead and from the sides, hoping to see where all the data points were before I even went in, create a map so I could hit all the points and run away before everyone was shooting at me too much.

Thing is, as I started it just didn't happen. Every time I scanned a point it said "ALERT" and gave a warning over the speakers, but no fines or bounties.

So... good deal, but I felt a bit cheated out of my Oceans Eleven moment ;)

Hehe, well as long as you don't enter the red security area, you won't get attacked or anything. That's the method I try to use.

Yes, so far this is not a glitch=) It's perfectly normal. More, there are no "++" size medium security bases in-game where you can be forced to perform an assault in place of a silent sneak-in - in order to scan all data-points.

So, all of type L1M from this list https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16CIPQqVZgXmlrgfzuOQOJoYVD_5eGFfgENGK5OPDIEQ/edit#gid=0
are already scanned (due to the search Cracked Industrial Firmware). "Thx" to Frontire for this "cooldown" with one or more week.
Also, any other type of settlement where can be found (MCF) Modified Consumer Firmware with threat lvl 0 ?
As I've said earlier - L1M is not the only one to search for CIF - all medium and low security bases can drop it. "treat level" is available in the same spreadsheet.
MCF - Modified Consumer Firmware - is a grade 2 material, so the most effective way to obtain is to scan low security bases (it can be dropped from Med.Sec too, but rates in Low Sec. seems to be better)
For some "low security" bases (all with treat level 0) you can look in another list linked to my signature - "free-to scan CDT's".
I hope to finish my new list with different kind of settlements with custom filters in the nearest future, so check this thread later for the new version.
