Hmm, and I'm - as always - very interested in the base type you got all this "precious treasures". Can you supply this info? Or you can make a little contribution to this data prospecting list yourself=).
Oh, there are 4 bases in the list for Luguls system, 2 of them medium security - a small and a large one. So I'm wondering which one=)It was one of yours from the list on the first page, 99% sure it was the base on Luguls. Just a very lucky RNG roll I assume.

And yes, this is a lucky shot (however not the first reported in this thread)
Ok, I'm being thick here obviously, but what the hell do the Type designations mean? What is L3L, M4L, S3M etc? I can't find any 'key' to these so unfortunately the sheet is less than useful to me![]()
Heh, you know - in fact this helps. Taking into account that you've got MEF - this a medium security base. And when choosing between L2M and S2M - I see a skimmer hangar bay and a turret at some distance. So I can assume this is L2M (S2M has no separate turrets)=) So now I can add another entry - thank you!I was at work earlier, got home and checked the original screenshot only to find I took it when I was still in turret view so it doesn't have the planet name in it, failing so hard lol
It is definitely either Luguls - Penrose Works or Murare - Boucher Holdings. I know because there are three systems close to each other around there (Luguls, Murare and Auschauts) and I visited two of them before logging off, then went to Auschauts when I logged on the next day, the screenshot was taken just before I logged off after the firtst two so it's definitely one of them. Of course it was also dark (!) which makes recognising which one it is from the planet surface next to impossible but you're more familiar with the planets and bases than I am, so here's the original pic.
Hope it helps and sorry for not being able to say for definite - I only took the screengrab because it was such an unusual drop but since I know it's all just RNG anyway I wasn't thinking in terms of 'must remember which planet and base that was', it was more 'OK that was pretty cool'.
Unless I've totally misread them myself:
Size, Type, Security
Size = S, M or L. (I assume if you've ever bought a t-shirt you can work those out https://forums-cdn.frontier.co.uk/images/smilies-frontier/biggrin.png)
Type 1 = Industrial
Type 2 = Exploration
Type 3 = Scientific
Type 4 = Exploration
Security = L, M, H (Low, Medium, High)
So for example Penrose Works on Luguls 2 (the place I mentioned above) is shown as L2M which means it's a large exploration layout base with medium security.
L3M and other codes were invented by me when I've built the classification for planetary bases - "SVS"- Size-Visual-Security.Ok, I'm being thick here obviously, but what the hell do the Type designations mean? What is L3L, M4L, S3M etc? I can't find any 'key' to these so unfortunately the sheet is less than useful to me :S
Size | Visual | Security Level | sub-variation |
+++ - Lagre ++ - Medium + - Small "" - Tiny (and no security level - otherwise it's a small base) | some number denoting "Visual"aspect (or settlement base model). Now can be replaced by "function"- hidden parameter | High Security Medium Security Low Security | if present (1 or 2) |
Ahh, that makes sense, thanks for that. At least I know what type of installation I'm going to fail at now
Is there any key to the icons on the maps? I'm having real trouble trying to orientate myself at these places. Oh, and a 'don't wander into this zone as you'll get locked in and security will go ape' warning may be good on those maps as well![]()

And for statistic I normally need only type+data dropped (planet and name are not required).
Absolutely correct about Size and Security, however type numbers were assigned "in order of appearance", so for different "sizes" the relation with "functions" is also different. The image of the SVS I've posted above is the most correct representation (however don't mix up REAL model sizes and IN-GAME sizes, there is a slight difference - thanks FD)Unless I've totally misread them myself:

The maps legend in different forms is also available - check the link on MAPS page or on Welcome page of my sidenotes.Ahh, that makes sense, thanks for that. At least I know what type of installation I'm going to fail at now

Also, I'm on the way of updating my original "home" thread of the settlements mapping project - dated February 2016 - on the Russian branch of the official forum. As soon as I'll finish that really "huge" post I'll translate it and post in English somewhere here.
However it already contains "extended" legend for the maps. Beware - the post is huge and nested multi-layer type.
Oh! Please, check your on-board data storage capacity - so far this the only known reason for not getting ANY data at all.Thanks for that guys. That was very helpfull. I went to Penrose Works and did as you said, and managed to get around the maze and get all data points. Unfortunately, I didn't get a single drop. At all. Nothing. Nada. Got the 700K data package and all data points are now inactive, but no other data drops. After 3 weeks of searching for MEF, I've given up the will to live! I understand that a grade 5 upgrade should be hard to get, but impossible is just ridiculous!
I'm off to do something slightly easier to do. Like search for Thargoids on the moon!
Thanks for the help though![]()
Oh, I don't know many Russians who managed to read my "huge" posts completely=) And wait a bit - as I've said, it is not finished yet=)Djadjok, you went to all this effort to help everyone, I think we should all go through the effort of learning Russian.
Oh! Please, check your on-board data storage capacity - so far this the only known reason for not getting ANY data at all.
And if you mean you don't get exactly MEF - this is unfortunate, but perfectly normal - RNG is RNG...
Ok, so I've calmed down a bit now. You're right, data storage was inadvertently maxed out with rubbish. I may give it a bash at another site tonight.
Again, thanks for the help![]()

To be exact - you've got 1 "seed" = 3 MEF's. It's not uncommon - 6 with nothing, the same situation as with 3 MEF seed from one settlement - you can find some evidence of this in this thread.Been through 6 settlements and only 1 MEF. Anyone have an idea of what the drop rate's meant to be or is everyone meant to feel this ?
