While we are at it there are loads of pictures of ships pinned to the wall at the back. I'm sure FD have done this on purpose to watch and see what happens. Wild speculation that's what!!!

Yeah, that was the first thing that jumped out to me too.
Need to compare them to the pic's we have seen so far...

I can see a floor...a console maybe....and a view window
So in my opinion its concept art of an interior that you would virtually walk in rather than a static cockpit...Something big like a Fer-de-lance maybe

Just my thoughts....

PS Thanks for the reply Josh ...Your concept art is pretty much all we see about what ED may look like so yes... Its very important to us that you keep giving us new material to drool over ;)

This one still blows me away and should be on the box.... It is Elite Dangerous in one pic :)

While we're on the subject of squinting at concept art, I've got a question that Josh might be able to answer (if he was the artist). In the piece showing the 3-bed cabin, is that a screen-grab from a Woody Allen film on one of the screens? If so, which one?

In that same picture, how is someone meant to get through that door??

;)

Great interview, though, Josh, thanks. :)

Great interview once again!

The screenie looks like a view out of the docking port to me. Surprised people aren't making a bigger deal of the numerous ship pictures on the far wall!

So many questions for Michael, and but I gotta ask this: Do the fans ever scare you? Do you ever worry about us turning up beside your bed a bit night asking you to try on a superman costume?

If the answer is 'no' then we can proceed with plan sigma...

It's the laser sight of the ship he's in or should I say the fly-by-wire hood.... that much i can be 90% sure of that little retangle is the exit from the station and infront is an eagle mark III heading directly upwards, which I think is an advertisement on the inside of the station............. Either that or That is where the news feed is going looking from the inside of your ship kinda like a TV type thing and the last thing he was looking at was a bounty on that particular eagle.......

Thank you Josh! Very interesting and heartening to read about your commitment to the Elite universe!

Q to Michael: Given your extremely busy job at Frontier, your personal life with the blog, the need to start reading licensed fiction at some point etc., where do you plan to take the time to write the sequel to the Dark Wheel?

Q2 to Michael: Will the sequel include psychotic cows being tortured to death or turned into sausages?

Thank you, It's great when you can create images that make people want to be in that world. Cheers!

Oh about the image... I don't think that enhancement has helped ;) where on lave did you get girls neck from.

Well the back wall art is probably more interesting than what I'm sketching ;)

Thanks for the person report Ashley grreat to see a photo and to see some of the office as well.

Great job you have Josh painting scifi and getting paid for it!

I was wondering who is your favourite scifi artists/illustrators - your pictures look quite Sid Mead-ish? Good use of cool and warm to accentuate distance and proximity and sleek shapes. But also a bit of Ralph McQuarrie in there in the painterly style?

Haven't seen any Chris Foss inspired stuff yet though, he is my favourite, has been for a long time.

Slawkenbergius Yeah it didn't have enough giant teal planets in to be mine ;)

nats Hey nats, those are very kind comparisons I don't deserve at all. Ralph McQuarrie was an early influence, I found Syd Mead later. Sci fi illustrators wise, as I said above the guys at Weta are doing lovely work, Sparth is always amazing, Khang le's work is always a treat. Dorje's brush work is lovely. Rob cunningham's design work is still stunning. Loads, loads and loads!
