Hi,
I'm sure Admin will tell me soon enough if this kind of posting is permitted or not. I should also apologise if you've seen this news elsewhere on social media.
I worked in the games industry back in the late 1980s and into the 1990s, and the first company I worked for was Telecomsoft, aka Firebird, Rainbird and eventually Silverbird, and I worked on several titles, including the 16-bit Elite conversions. I also later did some freelance work on Frontier: Elite 2 for Konami. Anyway...
Next Spring (2024), a fully illustrated hardback book is being published which gives a comprehensive history of Firebird Software, including lots of information revealed for the first time. The book is the result of over 20 years of research, and is the culmination of a number of side projects of mine down the years including a few Retro Gamer articles on the subject and my retired website 'The Bird Sanctuary'. It gives a detailed behind-the-scenes look at the games, the developers and the people who worked there. It's a massively nostalgic look back at that golden era, and if you wish to learn more, 'Memories of Firebird' is available for pre-ordering right now (and at a discounted RRP for a limited period), direct from the publisher.
There is a chapter in the book dedicated to the Firebird conversions of the original 'Elite', as published between 1985 - 1991 (if you include the Rainbird version of 'Elite +' or 1985 - 1988 if you don't!).
