The screen savers and audio theme are fairly good thanks, but the rest is pretty awful, although I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that. The ring/msg tones are the biggest disappointment for me.
It's the game I'm interested in and I'm still having fun, but after waiting this long from launch I think most people were perhaps expecting a little more effort would have gone into the packs.

sooo... Am I the only one getting a fully black screen whenever I try to run any of the screensavers?
And I noticed the screensavers' .scr processes remain in the task manager every time I try to run any of them

They are not screenshots, they are screensavers. Your Windows system should ask for your permission to install them when you double click on them. Try to see if the request is hidden behind some window.
Woops my bad, I meant screensavers, not screenshots.
I do get the install windows and they appear in the screensaver selection tool, but whenever I try to preview or let one run it just gives me a constant black screen
The screen savers are probably the best thing in this pack. The rest of the content is pretty poor if i'm honest. They probably should have got someone like Mobius to do the wallpapers. Slightly off OP but where is "free access to one of 5 new ship designs" that came with a purchase of the Beta? I'm not seeing it anywhere.
This is about Mercenary Edition rewards, not alpha / beta only rewards.
Thats was 'free access when they're released'. 'They' meaning those five ships, not the game. We're at 15 ships now, 2 more next patch, so when ships 25-30 arrive you'll get one of those.
*correction, actual quote was "free access for Beta and Alpha backers to one of the 5 new ships that David announced in his piece above when it’s released!"
Very poorly worded, but you can un-tangle that sentence to mean 'getting one particular ship when it's done'.

Slightly disappointed that the "installable" extras are for Windows only, I was hoping for a sweet elite dangerous screen saver on my Mac. Maybe (probably not since it was never promised) they will be updated for Mac after the Mac client is released.
I know I can just have a photo screen saver with the screenshots, but it's just not quite the same.

Rename the file extensions from .m4r to .m4a. Android and windows does understand .m4a.
If you still have issues with this, get VLC from VideoLAN.org, it's free, and you can convert .m4a to .mp3.
The only thing I found neat it's the hyperspace screensaver.
