Met My First Hacker Today

Would't really help tbh, most modern hacks intercept and modify the traffic as it leaves the client, some even run in web browsers, so you can't even detect the presence of the hack on the local machine - like I mentioned in CS:GO, the only way these people are detected is by Overwatch, where people spectate the player from the gamedemo, there literally seems to be no other way.

Data traffic is encrypted, so that at least would be hard (not impossible, but you have to work).

BTW, google just found me this. That's... interesting.

Solo just isin't good enough for a multitude of reasons

1) AI is weak

2) No unique situations or persistance

3) It was sold as an MMORPG

Well I don't feel the need to be so challenged in my gaming life so I am cool with 1. I make unique situations everytime I hit thrust by mistake inside a station so 2 is out as well. And as for 3? Well you are right but so was COD and it sucks now because of idiots. So was WOT, now sucks and I could go on with a very long list.

Do I want to get blown up inside a station by some moron hacker or stay solo? Hmmmm let me think!

I think the popular opinion here is that some people need morons to keep their gameplay unpredictable and interesting :) And on #3, the game got rebranded at some point as "MMO", but look at the 2012 articles on this: http://games.on.net/2012/11/elite-d...nt-an-mmo-closer-to-things-like-call-of-duty/ And this rebranding was purely marketing thing, the game design hasn't change much (well, except making game saves cloud-based).

If you have control over one endpoint encryption is trivially easy to crack.

It's not "trivially easy" if you sit outside the endpoint. You have to break into the endpoint too, and while obviously you can do that, you have to do a lot more work.

As somebody that played the original many, many years ago, I remember it as a solo game and am happy to continue. At some point I will dip in to MP but not to often and not whilst idiot hackers are about.

This thread is another example why there is NO point AT ALL in playing Open Game... for this reason and many others... If you got friends, play PRIVATE instead...

Otherwise Solo will provide you the same level of game experience, without the hackers/exploiters/murderers..

If you read many of the posts, you will see that some of us are offering advice that would normally cost a great amount of money (well dependent on how smart the guy reading it is).

The biggest problem in the com sec industry, is not the cost, the hackers, the tech but the deaf ears solutions fall on.

Those here, who know. Will have had times where morons fail to se the obvious.

Those here, who know. Will be able to list countless firms, organisations, and even pubic/government departments that bury their heads in the sand and refuse to even see the problem.

A celebrity in the field once described it as a pantomime, with a thousand voices shouting "he's behind you..." The reply... "oh no he isn't"

It is why many leave the industry, or fail to find work. Only to be later picked up by the authorities, and blamed for all manor issues relating to the problems they highlighted.

I still hope that FD is different... Hope?
Can anyone confirm that there is at least some hope?

Just got out of Lave before things got interesting.

Left Lave station.. Heading to my next jump point. Suddenly the entire radar is filled with white dumb fire signals.

I see a Player Anaconda and about 5 Cobras and Vipers suddenly being hit and then Wanted ( I assume point defence kicked in ) and the station ripping them apart.

I tried to look for who was firing the dumbfires but had no luck.

Funny you say that, Sony has been hacked so much over last 3 years, they finally sold the Sony Online Entertainment division off... Ain't that a hoot. Sony just gave up on it. No more video games from Sony! Yay!

Don't get me started on the short sighted publicity stunt that sony pulled...
If I made a stand up gig on this, people would assume it as a joke filled with unicorns...

Ask anyone who has heard my rants in TS...

was as it a hack, by the nicest friendliest hackers on earth... or a stunt? Mmmm

Only an idiot would get that wrong,
Enter President Obama...

REALLY w.t.f.

There isn't a workable solution - not one that wouldn't require a complete rebuild of the net code, or would cause more problems than it solves.

Honestly, I've hated Sony since back when they nerfed my Monk in EQ1 :) YEARS ago. So I'm glad they sold off their games to another company, hopefully they will do a better job running/developing the titles.

If they can now spot people logging off mid-combat, surely something like this will stick out like a lighthouse. FD have quite detailed server side stats and monitoring afaik.

Honestly, this kind of stuff is why I only play with friends or solo and the rest of the universe can go to a very hot nasty place. Having more than enough fun in this game since October without having to deal with stupidity.

Well CMDR <snip> is the culprit here, sitting in George Lucas in Leesti, I saw him camped in the station, was attached at the entrance and my autodock failed. Pulled back out of range and waited. I saw the station pound this guy as he left the station and he flew right past me, I turned to give chase and fired a few direct hits but no effect. He then jumped away. I tried to dock again and the same thing happened. I think I ran into mines or something as I exploded on entering the station. The report - Killed by CMDR <snip>. What a sorry excuse for a human being. Tried to report via the correct channels but I think its busted, the game crashed. Unless its his P2P hack preventing reporting, who knows. So developers, take a look it happened in the last 15mins. Kick this loser out of the game.

About 40 mins ago, I was attacked by him, too, as I was leaving George Lucas with another player in a freighter. Received two volleys of rockets and exploded like my Cobra was made of paper.

This all is known now for days.
Why you still play there. Playing in a big group or solo has more fun.
I think it is more easy to get warned/baned here from forums for of swearing, than get baned from open for cheating/exploiding/griefing.
