Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

Nice to see that some people are enjoying themselves in this. Personally - totally hacked off with CTDs and BSDs - done all the "known issues" workarounds but still not able to complete a flight in three weeks. Having spent ages loading the game, setting up the aircraft, inputting the flight plan and nav frequencies only to have a CTD or that even more annoying blue screen system reset in the middle of your flight is soul-destroying.

Come back X-Plane 11, all is forgiven.

(.... and still no sign of the free "Aviator's Club" liveries either.)

That sucks, and sorry to hear it. The only suggestion I would have is to check whether maybe there's a hardware issue somewhere. The reason I say this is that back in the early days of Elite, I started getting BSD's. I thought it was perhaps because of the game (and submitted a support ticket) as that's the only times they happened, but turned out to be an underperforming PSU. My understanding is that BSD's are mostly down to hardware issues, could be mistaken.

Hope you get it sorted.

No BSoD's for me but I do get a few CTD's, though they are usually down to memory issues, if I try to load a busy area my system simply runs out and a CTD is the result, you can see it happen with task manager open.

I used to get CTDs when I first started playing MFS. I quadrupled my virtual file system size, and I haven't had one since (knock on wood).

BTW - I am not asking for help, just commenting on the state of the release. Thanks anyway.

Nope not a memory issue. I have 32MB matched DDR4 3200mhz - no issues seen in performance monitor etc - I even changed my bios to run everything really stable - so even with memory running at 2133MHz - same results.

Issues always seem to involve one of the "known issues" - ATC, map, etc. I even did the reverting windows from 2004 to 1903 that MSFS recommended - still the same.

Next step is to rip it out and re-install. Since, even from first install I keep seeing this "stopped working" nonsense:

In the meantime, I just won't spend time doing proper flights until the release becomes more stable.

Quito approach and landing were the most scenic so far, weather did also play its part. And seeing that 1080 is the minimum for the VR beta gives me hope that the 1080ti will do the job once it releases!

New video from the "around the world" series, now in europe.

Good stuff, though that location in Portugal, the water masks in-game are still not fixed, I wonder what build they are using for these videos.
I posted recently about the IRL Cessna flight I took, and actually flew over the same location at Lake Balaton - my Father lives there so I am regularly driving there too.

Honestly, I'm seeing VR in this as a "next year hopefully" thing. I reckon my old CV1 and 1080Ti will struggle with it, so I'm not even putting my name down for the beta.

A 3080 and a Reverb G2 should do it. :)

Since ED is now going to support VR in cockpits, and it looks as though it's on the way here, I've gone and pre-ordered a Reverb G2 (should arrive some time in December). I'm currently on a 1080 (which is also minimum spec for the Reverb), so I shall likely want / have to upgrade that. I'm probably going to go for the 3070, as from what I've read the biggest performance advantage of the 3080 comes when it's being used to drive a 4k display, something I shan't be doing. Will also have to upgrade the PSU.

The live weather seems to be borked again after the last patch. Either that, or the precipitation filter in the map is way off. (by the way, the map filters now keep resetting to default for some reason).

They mention this in the latest Q&A video (well, not this specifically, but in general). They've kinda rushed out patches in the last month without proper testing because they were under pressure to do so, and it's introduced a fair amount of regression. So going forward, there'll be fewer patches in number, and they'll be tested with a group of players first before release. Hopefully that means we'll get patches in the future that fix things without breaking others.

I've also just noticed / realized that the graphics / data settings after the patch have defaulted to turning off bing data and photogrammetry. Doesn't affect the oversized buildings that are now springing up everywhere, but other scenery is now looking better. :)
