Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

Not sure whether it is possible to fully avoid it via Steam, but that's one of the reasons I'll wait and probably rent it via XBox Live or whatever that is called.
Well, Steam wants to know my phone number and keeps nagging me about it ever since I created an account. So far I'm avoiding it and nothing's happening. It doesn't even mind that I am logging in from a different country every month.

Will this only be available via the Microsoft Store, or will it also be available through places like Steam? Will I be required to be logged into my Microsoft account (which I haven't been since buying this new laptop) to play FS2020?
I would suppose so. Ubi requires you to run their launcher too for Steam-bought Ubi games. EA and Origin too.

Pricing is quite farcical.
Certainly an amazing looking game but unless this has free updates along the way I think I will pass on this.

It's not that bad at the moment, but I would be lying if I said I'm not concerned about their future plans.
I mean... look at the Train simulator. If you want to buy all tracks and all trains, it'll cost you over 15 grand. So compared to that, 20 quid for ten extra planes doesn't really sound all that bad.

If we're ever getting warbirds (which I highly doubt, btw. unless they enable mods), I want a Tigercat and the Mosquito. My two all time favourites.
Never gonna happen, though. sad face

Why wouldn't we get any? We got them before. I have to assume you're better in the know because of your involvement in the beta, but... I expect we'll get there eventually.

No, I don't know anything, of course. At the time I was testing there was like five planes available.
I just don't see it as a feasible possibility. Warbirds are a niche within the flight sim niche. I simply don't think they're going to waste the dev time on them, at least until they create every other plane they can actually sell to people.

Yikes! Well then, hmmm. I might wait a bit. I waited a good year before getting RDR2, mainly to allow time for all the bugs to be found and squashed. Perhaps eventually FS2020 will come to Steam like FSX. Either that or XPlane 12 will offer FS2020 graphics.

In the meantime, I can always try out DCS and continue watching Youtube videos of real pilots flying over my favorite places on earth.

It's a darn shame we have to give up so much privacy to play a computer game.
Your are aware that it will also be available on the Xbox, right?

I don't know. After spending thousands on a system I'm okay dropping this amount on a title that has insane detailing and replay value. I paid €10-20 for some indie games that were absolutely bad value, but this? Nah.

BTW it will have updates, there is a FAQ on their page. Plus you get an online service of live traffic, weather and multiplayer too.

For MSFX, I have a huge amount of modded planes, ranging from Santa's Sleigh to X Wings & Colonial Vipers, and, yes, a B-17. I, myself, was even able to create and import a modest representation of the Deenethorpe (UK01) airbase into it. I'd be damn surprised, not to mention disappointed, :) if we weren't eventually allowed to do that for MSF'20. We shall see.

Third party developments confirmed, let's hope for the same access for the hobby modders, although I suspect MSF20 will be a whole new kettle of fish.

After having given it a thought, I do not think so. The base edition is okay for most casual gamers, as they will not really care about the greater variety of planes at the end. To them it's a great way to fly around in Google Earth (okay, Bing).

But for real simmers, FS2020 should hopefully offer an unprecedented depth of plane & world simulation and enhanced graphics, which will be worth the price of even the premium edition multiple times.

I just hope they will continuously improve the use and quality of their real world 3D data, because so far it looks excellent in central parts of greater cities but at least for some European countries the real data is soon replaced by generic 3D buildings which instantly makes it look much more like the original FS or Prepar3D, and takes away some of the magic of the experience.

And, obviously, I really really hope they will add VR support rather sooner than later.

EDIT: my reference to "soon" in the above post means that you will eventually see a difference in visual quality between central parts of the city and its outskirts. It is NOT meant to suggest that MS will remove any feature or map quality from future builds, as compared to the current one.

VR not in at launch? That sounds familiar.

Well, not quite: ED is a game built with VR as vital part of its DNA, while FS2020 was originally planned to not support VR, but the devs actually noticed how much VR would add to the experience and how great a desire exists within the community to add VR, so they added it to the top priorities list.

But FDev of course seem to be trying to break the cycle and go against the grain - something about being progressive, revolutionary, not part of the herd, you know. I suppose we will learn soon that Odyssey will only support Windows XP, with Windows 3.1 and 95 support to be added later (as a separate payable DLC). 8-bit graphics confirmed.

Is the price really shocking? Can't remember for sure, but I still have memories of the different FS2002 editions back in the CD-ROM era and it was well above the rest too. It was a massive step forward too with ATC, AI planes, autogen... FS 2004, FSX by comparisons have felt more like incremental upgrades. This one looks like a similar kind of breakthrough as 2002. It certainly is too expensive for people to pick up, get bored after finding out there are no guns, no leaderboard and no achievements, but for anyone into flight simulation, meh, there are thousands of hours behind the purchase. I'm still in awe at the bits on display, although I'm waiting to see what they did with the non-handcrafted west of Ireland to see what the default "rest of the world" is like.

I just wish there was at leas one helicopter. It's criminal to model the ground in such detail and restrict flight to fixed-wing...
