I always wanted to go back and visit the Falkland islands...minus having people shoot at me this time. I assume Stanley airport will be there in MSFS.

I always planned to return to the islands in real life... as the person I am now (combat veterans will understand), something that sadly may no longer be possible...I owe a debt of honour to a former adversary, now simply an Argentinian brother and my friend...and to return something that I never should have taken....it's a long story, from another life.

I bought a T-shirt from my Argentinian friend when we first met, long after the war of course, he was selling the T-shirts from a market stall when I met him in Córdoba during a visit in the late 90's...it reads, 'Las Malvinas son nuestros!'...couldn't resist it. :)

We got very drunk that night after we discovered we were both Falklands veterans, we had first faced and fought eachother on opposite sides at Goose Green. We've been friends since that meeting at Córdoba..

For those who are "stoked" for FS2020:
As others have pointed out, it is not a video game, it is a flight simulator. If you all think it will be exciting, you are probably wrong unless you find the details of operating an aircraft exciting. Unless someone is into flying and enjoys piloting a simulated airplane as realistically as possible it will be boring to many.

Meh...I fly enough combat sims to enjoy just flying for flyings sake now and then :)

That's exactly what makes it exciting, flying almost real airplanes with realistic flight physics, the 3D virtual earth then makes it legendary on top of exciting. I don't think anyone here was expecting ED-style dogfights or be able to bomb their pesky neighbours house.

Anyway, there are in game options to make it much more casual friendly for those wanting a much more relaxed experience, from easier flight physics, to simplified airplane controls and even flight assists (see video below), so everyone interested in the game can be accomodated, from the guy/gal who just wants to relax and see earth's beautiful places from the air, down into the guy who pilots real 747's for a living.

The video below shows the available assist options:

In the theme of french owned islands, one of my favorite places in the world (even though I haven't actually been there yet) is Reunion Island, which features landscapes similar to those, as well as boasts one of the grumpiest volcanoes on earth, the Pithon de la Fournaise. Reunion Island is also on my shortlist of islands to escape move to when I can finally retire, together with Tenerife and La Palma in the Canary Islands (they all have the same kind of features I love, mountains, sea, lots of unspoiled nature for hiking/trekking, dramatic landscapes, active volcanoes, and cheap living but still "first world").

Yes, the French have pretty much claimed the most beautiful tropical islands. :)
What makes Marquises exceptionall special to me is it remoteness. You can only fly there from Tahiti, and that flight costs a fortune on top of the flight to Tahiti. Last time I checked it was something like €2000? So the total I recon should be around €3000-3500 from Europe.
BTW Palau will be also interesting... :)

Equally, I am really excited to revisit the airports I've been to. Ushuaia, or Atiu airport and many others.... :) I will never forget the landing at Rarotonga, when in the opposing windows all I've seen were lush green forests on the hillside. Or at Huahine, when a whale popped out from the sea right while landing.

I fully agree, I think it will get boring fast if it is used as a glorified Google Earth. To me a game/sim that offers only the micromanaging of the aircraft is not enough, hence I never got to flight sims - to me it is the combination of the two (slow paced journey/travelling plus the controls) in a fantastic package that really changed it.
I am actually watching Squirrel 's videos not to spoil the views, but rather observing how he plans flights, how he operates the aircraft. And obviously I will stick to simple planes for the foreseeable future. :)

I think it'll be great to just fly around without being shot at or forced to shoot at other things. Initially, I probably will treat it like a glorified Google Earth & with all the flight assists on, but it looks like the simulation has enough depth to it to take it further when the mood / inclination takes me. Like others, I'm watching Squirrel's videos because he is an actual pilot who has flown many of the routes he shows in the game - and he explains everything as he goes.

You make your own fun with these things.

Haha. Well, their imaging is ok at least. I have used it a good few times to generate Ortho tiles for XP11. Their road map however... My place is absolutely shocking. If they overlay procgen roads on top of the imagery where Bing thinks there's a road, it's going to look pretty weird.

My best pal runs a successful Facebook group for pictures from Arbroath (my home town). He bought himself an expensive drone a couple of months ago, and tbf, has got some incredible aerial shots and videos of the toon.

I'm looking forward to posting some photos and videos taken from FS2020, just to mess with him. :LOL:

I like Arbroath...took my wife there to get some real smokies from the harbour smokehouse when I was showing her around Scotland on the Harley. We lived in Aberdeenshire for a wee while...up near Mintlaw so wasn't too far away for a trip now and then.

Totally off topic...but William Davidson (of Harley-Davidson fame) was born in Brechin...I've even visited his old family croft :)

I spent 15 years in Aberdeen/shire. Methlick for me, not far from Mintlaw! ;-)

Used to fly from Dyce (Aberdeen) EGPD regularly with a friend who had the PPL. Done Dyce to Inverness a couple of times over the Grampians/Cairngorms in a 2/4 seater.

Flown into Kirkwall and Lerwick a few times. Used to have meetings at the Flotta terminal.

Know the area well!

My best pal's Dad actually runs one of those smokehouses. It's been in the family for centuries - and although everything is mass produced now, it's still done in the traditional way. They basically invented mass production.

J M Barrie (Peter Pan) was from Kirriemuir. I've visited his house too. Bon Scott (AC/DC founding member) was from Forfar. Lots of really talented & gifted people from the area.

And then there's me. :LOL:

I use an online app called FSE (Flight Sim Economy) to make my flight sims into an RPG or virtual pilot career of sorts. Been flying with FSE for over ten years now in both FSX and P3D, and next week with the new MFS.

Buy a plane and fly jobs from airport to airport while paying for gas, maintentance, and repairs. Just a little GA pilot trying to make a living and keep my plane flying! Much like a flying version of Euro Truck, which is probably why I enjoy it so much!

In the meanwhile if you miss the old days of the Combat Flight Simulator series from Microsoft, I can absolutely recommend IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad for all your WW2 (and WW1) flight sim desires.
