Alas my home is a flat bitmap (near bottom of screen) even on ultra

Found Durham Castle to be a flat bitmap and Durham Cathedral was a block of flats... hey ho.
When the SDK comes out (assuming it support scenery editing), I'll be doing a proper hand-crafted rendition of my neighborhood. Since I live in the middle of nowhere, it'll be easy enough to do :)

I'm unable to figure out how to configure my joystick.

The game sees it, and lets me create a profile for it (with nothing filled in). From there I can select from what it thinks are over 100 buttons (my joystick is a VKB Gladiator MKII -- it has maybe 15 buttons). I can select the various axes, and the sensitivity thing works, but I can't actually assign anything to anything.

So I'm temporarily stymied. This is even worse than ED's control configuration, and that's saying something.

Time to look for help...somewhere. lol.

I've given up and shut it down...not only due to the same 1.2Kbps that Microsoft servers seem to be firing out but also so I can actually do something else with my PC except watch a little download bar remain static for hours or type on here.
This makes me feel less bad about having crappy internet. It might not be the fastest Internet, but it's faster the what Microsoft's servers are feeding me at the moment. Not that I blame them, this is a TON of data to stream to potentially millions of people at one time.

If we thought ED was bad with "Asp in front of something" pics, FS2020 will be taking the absolute cake with "plane in front of stuff" pictures!

I'm just waiting for the inevitable disappointment when I try to locate the Orkney islands and there's just a blank space with 'Here be dragons' written on the map...the national weather maps are pretty much the same, they just have 'Shyte weather' embossed on the map anywhere above Inverness

Been messing with this for the last 3 hours or so (where did the time go???). Found 3 family home locations (in 3 countries), the one I live currently in even matched in terms of the textures of the 3D model. The other two (one less known city, and a tiny village in middle of nowhere) have auto-gen placeholders but they're in the right spot and could easily be found by following landmarks and major roads.

Running on high default settings, getting between 45-60fps depending on where I am (NYC is obviously worse than the middle of nowhere). But the middle of nowhere never looked better in a flightsim. I'm seriously impressed with this. I do seem to have problems with the FPS limiter, when setting it to 30 it seems to lock it at 20. Hope this gets fixed, or maybe I'll try to limit it via Nvidia settings instead.

Also is very playable indeed with an Xbox pad, once I worked out where the sensitivity settings were. And TrackIR works like a charm.

Love it.

I have a Logitech X56, but haven't tried it yet, only get to play in about 5 hours...

If for some reason it doesn't work properly, I still have my old Thrustmaster T16000M as backup.

It works, just don't rely on MS getting their screenshots correct! I called this out in the Alpha stage.

Do not use direct button selection when assigning elements to the X52. They have the Joystick L (throttle in the picture and in my book) and Joystick R (stick) confused. The way to get them assigned is to go into the feature you wish to assign and in the very top box, click, and it will ask you to press the appropriate button and/or axis to be used. This is how I found out they were the wrong way round!

I now have the basic controls assigned, throttle, ailerons, elevator (rudder is on pedals and they worked fine out of the box), flaps, gear, etc.

Just did a 2:45 flight from Manchester to Madrid and landed safely.

I also got a picture of my house before hand when messing with control assignments! :) I'm not telling you which one it is though! 😃

The Premium Deluxe content is around 4Gb, are you sure it's not just downloading that? Because they've just put in a few fixes for it not showing up before... took me a while, but I got there.
That's exactly what it is. One of the initial file names gave it away i.e. 787. Content was missing despite having paid for the Premium Deluxe edition so seems they sorted that now.

I did eventually get the joystick to work. There's some kind of bug that prevents the controls from showing on the right side of the screen, it's hard to describe, but I got them to appear by searching for blank.

After that I could assign them.

Having issues with the third tutorial mission (take off and level flight). It asks me to full throttle which I do on the HOTAS (and even on the in cockpit throttle it says 100% throttle) but then if fails the mission saying speed isn't high enough?

Got it to work by pulling cockpit throttle out then back in again. Then it seemed to bug out when I got to 1500 ft. :S

They just don't understand island development.

I'll do you a screenshot. I flew from Kirkwall to Flotta the other day...

I had to create a new XBox account (never bothered with it before). Did you already have an account? If so, it should have given you the chance to change your tag when you first created it. I was very pleased it allowed spaces in the name :D

I have been able to change my tag and sub tags for children before. Shouldnt be a problem probably just buried in sub menus.

Got an email from IC game studios today...dev studio responsible for IL2 if anyone didn't know. Here's an extract...
