Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

Having issues with the third tutorial mission (take off and level flight). It asks me to full throttle which I do on the HOTAS (and even on the in cockpit throttle it says 100% throttle) but then if fails the mission saying speed isn't high enough?

Got it to work by pulling cockpit throttle out then back in again. Then it seemed to bug out when I got to 1500 ft. :S

Same at times during the tutorial. The throttle is properly calibrated in the controller menu, but max power is not attainable at times. It means I cannot climb fast enough for later tutorials either. Not sure if it is a bug or if it is me forgetting something, but it is fairly persistent.

"Keep climbing at 75 knots."
"Mate, I cant even fly 75 knots when level..."

Using the keyboard to add throttle doesn't work either. Flaps are properly set, and that is where my understanding ends. :p

While I DO think the tech is incredible on many levels, a little piece of me died when I went to visit Durham Castle and Cathedral, which normally look like this...

Default controls are a bit wonky... My X56 default controls had stuff like throttle and mixture set to the exact same axis... Created control profiles from scratch, starting with the basics, will add the rest as I go.

Speaking of setting controls, for some reason "throttle axis" is not in the list of "essentials", had to switch to "all" to see it.

Meanwhile enabled "rolling cache" and gave it 1 terabyte of space, now I've been waiting for over 10 minutes and counting with a "do not turn off microsoft flight simulator or the computer while rolling cache changes are being processed"... If you want to fiddle with the rolling cache settings, do it before going to lunch!

I approve of this message, I'm updating DCS right this moment, an hour or so of MSFS and I'm totally ready to shoot something, anything, really. Did a bit of flight training, a couple or so of the landing challenges and I'm kinda bored already. Can't really complain, though, I knew this was going to happen, glad I only spent 1€.

Performance seems to be a bit hit and miss on my rig with high settings - I suspect the MFDs to be the culprit as fully analog aircraft don't exhibit the stuttering problems I experienced in the Extra 330LT that I took out of the airfield (LOAV) right next to the town I live in. Guess I'll have to try it with avionics turned off. The airfield was very recognizable, the town on the other hand not so much, I have to say. Finding the place I live might be a challenge under those circumstances.

Does anyone know the difference between the modern and the legacy flight model? The net seemingly does not, and I can't find a manual in the mess the Microsoft store made on my D: drive. Installing one game into one folder should not be too much to ask for, I'd say.

I just realized (from the slowly reducing free HD space) that the game is pre-allocating the 1 terabyte I set for the rolling cache very slowly... At this rate it will take almost as much as the first download...

I know shaky releases are the norm nowadays, and fixes and patches will arrive and in a few months everything will be smooth and dandy and all will be forgiven, but at this exact moment I wish I could just have X-Plane 11 with FS2020 scenery...

Got an email from IC game studios today...dev studio responsible for IL2 if anyone didn't know. Here's an extract...

We are aware that many of you are sight-seeing in your Cessna or flying an Airbus today. We consider this activity a little perverse of course. Took a peek, but I already had everything they have on sale. The only DLCs I still don't have are the 2 recent Yak-9 airplanes, and they're not on sale.

We're buying into an architecture and a plan, as well as a slightly ropey beginning. It'll all be good in time. Even the dodgy scenery will be fixed once the SDK is released and people start putting their favourite landmarks in.

If it makes you feel any better - X-Plane 12 will be just as bad, if not worse.

I can't wait, please do...but turn live weather off as it's pretty miserable here today...I'm a bit further north than the main island though, Kirkwall is a 3 hour ferry trip away... or 11 minutes by plane. :)
I didn't know which of the northerly islands you were on so took some panoramas! Just uploaded to Youtube...
SD version processed, HD version still being processed...

Enjoy! :D

Wonderful...looks as beautiful as it does in the real, all the islands look the right shape etc... the vid ended before you reached my island though...I'm a bit east of your final position over on Sanday :D

47 GB and counting... SLOOOOOOOWWWLLLLYY..

All I know is that when I have to shut this off tonight, it better pick up where I left it when I start it up again tomorrow!!!!

If anyone is having trouble setting up controllers (and why wouldn't you?) here is a rather good tutorial (one of a series by the squirrel):

(Since my system is still doing a re-download - not even half way through again - I have been reading up on the issues, tips and tricks for MSFS2020 on the Avsim forum. I think you can see everything on there if not a member, joining is free if you want anyway. avsim.com/forums/ )

BTW - have people noticed the range of Airbus controllers that Thrustmaster have introduced? I might have to buy another computer desk and have a dedicated flight sim desk in addition to the current space/fltsim/general setup.... ;)

Once again consumers win! Competition even in slightly unrelated genres is good for us.

Yeah I know. Was just annoyed at the time, due to the little glitches and another very long wait. I'm almost certain in a few months when everything's smooth and controls/settings are all to my taste, this game will occupy a permanent place in my personal vault of unforgettable games. :)

Just finished my first nightime flight (I'm using real weather and real time, and it's almost 22h here), and I got to say flying over a city at night in this game is just absolutely spectacular.
