I paid £110 for MSFS.

I'm not paying extra for what is basically a bugfix for something that the developers will get sorted eventually & natively within the game.

When I played E: D on PC, I used to have half a dozen 3rd party things running before I could start playing. It was a PITA, and actually put me off playing because it was so much hassle to set up every time I feel like playing. I'm trying to avoid similar with this.

Same here, sometimes the setting up would take longer than the actual session as after connecting the hotas, enabling Tobii, starting EDMC, Elite Observatory, then opening the browser with Inara, EDDB, edtools, hozbase, etc, and sometimes I just ended up sitting on the landing pad for a while listening to the sounds, and then logged off. :ROFLMAO:

I'm actually pretty happy with the current in-game weather system, except for this latest bug with drunk Thor throwing lightning bolts all over my clear and partly-cloudy skies. I keep looking for a way to turn off lightning completely, since I'd rather no lightning (I try to avoid flying through storms) than lightning everywhere.

I don't envy you "power gamer" lot a bit. For me it's just a matter of starting the EDTracker and Opentrack (or now with Elite, wearing the visor and pointing a big finger at the Elite tab) and off I go on my merry way in whatever the current game is offering me. Always time for an on-the-fly alt-tab if I really need to get those engineer requirements on Inara, or that VOR frequency/ICAO code for the airport I just decided to head to. Can't see the need of always having half a dozen third-party gimmicks churning in the background, not even Elite with its blatant lack of in-game informations need that.

(Sorry it looks like I'm quote-stalking you recently, I swear it's totally unintentional 😅 )

Yeah Heimdall seems to be unable to close the Bifrost for the past few weeks.

Unrelated, I stumbled upon this video, thought it might interest you:

So yesterday I got a reminder of the old Microsoft times... Tried to launch the game on steam, nothing happens... Tried again, again nothing happens, no error, just nothing happens. Hit verify game files on steam, and again tried to launch, and nothing happens.

Decided to reinstall, knowing that would mean my daily gaming time was over, due to the prehistoric download speeds of the MS downloader... Uninstalled and re-installed the game on steam, then hit play so it would launch the microsoft downloader to begin the endless wait, again nothing happens, no error, nothing.

Looked at the files hit the .exe directly, and finally got a message "yadda yadda missing mfplat.dll". Only a microsoft game to make me remember the dark times of missing shared DLLs... So apparently the last windows update borked my installation of Windows Media Feature Pack, which contains files required to play the intro of the game. Had to install through apps - optionals in the OS, search for Windows Media Feature Pack, reboot, and voila now it works.

Now all that was left was re-downloading 100GB of stuff at 2005 download speeds...

It it happens to you, no need to reinstall the game, just reinstall the Windows Media Feature Pack.

Cheers for the info. Sounds like a bit of a nightmare. :(

I make a point these days to always defer updates wherever I can, so I can read to see if there has been any backlash to anything online before I install it on my system. I need this system to work all the time, since as well as being my gaming computer, I use it for work as well.

You can also skip the intro loading screens of MSFS by using "-FastLaunch" in the launch options on Steam. Not much help to you now of course. :ROFLMAO:

Has happened too many times to me. :(

I hope I`m wrong but I get the feeling MSFS will still need some addons running. Hopefully less than Prepar3d sim:
-run weather addon, that also opens cloud HD texture addon.
-run camera view addon
-run fuel planner for aircraft of my choosing
-run flight planner
-run flightsim

As it stands, I'm running VFR Map for the bush trips, because the in-game one isn't clear enough or provides enough information for me on many legs to actually complete. It's free, but I still do it under sufferance. :ROFLMAO: Sometimes I have to have an additional Chrome open on another monitor with Google maps as well.

That's it though. I have loads of 3rd party scenery, airports and planes installed, but I want to keep as far away from running multiple apps as possible.

A short clip from a night flight I did in the UK yesterday evening. Although the weather wasn't great it wasn't thundering and lightning but that doesn't detract from how the Sim represents it! Amazing...
Had a similar experience although in daylight when taking off from Dakar. They’ve really put efforts on the weather effects.

Weather and visual effects are absolutely fantastic (except for the current Drunk Thor bug ). Storms, clouds, rain, fog, icing, lightning, etc. And love the fact these aren't just visual, they impact gameplay as well, airports can deny VFR landings when weather affects visibility, your plane can ice up and stall in cold, humid weather, islands can hide invisible under low clouds, making you rely only on instruments and maps, etc.

I particularly love flying in rainy weather, even the sound of the raindrops hitting the cockpit glass is just wonderful. It's the closest I ever felt to flying one of those "aero-cars" in Blade Runner over a rainy future city.

It's certainly true that the game is still buggy, and things aren't always what we expect or hoped for. That said, it has its moments...

A couple of pictures taken down by one of the most southerly airports in the world, and while I've not been there, friends who have been seem to like the pictures. :) And they've sent me pictures of the real thing, and for a computer game, I'll give it a (tentative) (y)

Using the Drone camera, you can get some interesting shots/views... :D
