Indeed. Planes models keep a beautiful level of detail up close.

Are there news on how the VR beta is running? Given it should be operational by the Reverb G2 launch, they don't have much time left.

It's certainly true that the game is still buggy, and things aren't always what we expect or hoped for. That said, it has its moments...

A couple of pictures taken down by one of the most southerly airports in the world, and while I've not been there, friends who have been seem to like the pictures. :) And they've sent me pictures of the real thing, and for a computer game, I'll give it a (tentative) (y)

Ushuaia? Been there and in Puerto Williams too. :) The landscape checks out but when I was there weather was much more... Ominous.

More fun with the Zlin Shock Ultra, demonstrating how stick-hard-over-one-way, rudder-the-other flat turns and sideslips can make for some interesting manoeuvres. Don't try this for real. In fact, if you are a real-life pilot don't even watch it. Try to forget this thread ever existed... ;)

Not heard anything about the VR beta other than a bunch of folks on the MSFS forums complaining that they'd applied but hadn't heard anything. I don't have my Reverb yet and won't until December, so I'm not interested in applying to beta test. I think there's a livestream this coming week some time, so maybe VR will get a mention.

Yes, that's Ushuaia. Although I do play around with live weather some of the time, I'm currently happy to set it myself against what I want from a flight. So for example, if I wanted to do a real ILS approach I'd try and set it so it's fogged in to a few hundred feet. Mostly I fly clear or scattered clouds with little wind as I'm still trying to hone my landing technique, and don't need to make it harder than I already seem to find it! :)

Here's a real life picture that is looking out towards where my Diamond was in my previous post.

I have my G2 preorder paid early July, so I should be in the first batch whenever the German retailer Bestware starts shipping. Considering the issues with the sim, I think it's highly unlikely they will make it with the VR until the G2 launch, and even the full release feels like beta testing, so I won't sign up either.

Here is an image I took after takeoff... 16 years ago!

Speaking of VR beta, I understand that VR is only for one specific headset at first (with support for other headsets coming out later). Does this imply that the headset they choose will become the "PSVR" for the new XBox? I could see why a console won't support all HMDs like a PC, but Microsoft could pick one to become the standard for their console.

It is the HP VR headset that is imminent and others will likely follow.

Well I finished the Nevada Bush Trip last night and they saved the best til last!

The trip generally is quite boring from a visual perspective unlike the other trips but it is a challenge finding some of the landing sites in these dun-coloured places. Anyway, here's two screenshots from the final leg when things at least looked better...

Why implement a simple rainbow, when you can have a physically correct one with secondary and tertiary, and colour spectrum inverted between each arc.

Only a small hop along my route this evening, from Pisa to Florence. Less than 40 miles, but a scenery totally worth it.

Looking behind toward Pisa and the coast:

A parting shot.

Yes that's Ponte Vecchio, photogrammetry on it up close isn't bad at all as well, but bridges and rivers definitely don't mix well in this software yet. The weather was the live one, only changing the time of day or else I'd have to do the entire trip at night, no idea about pressure and wind intensity (I really don't pay too much attention to that stuff, I usually improvise with handling on the fly, literally), but cloud formations and direction were more or less a general approximation of what I could see from the radar app. It's been actually the first time since I started the trip a few weeks ago that I've been met with not clear weather, I hope to be as lucky on the next leg!

Have never been in Siena and haven't in Perugia for many years now, but I've been in Orvieto just this August, and payed a visit inside the cathedral this time as well, it's always a beautiful city and one I get back gladly. (When possible we spend our holidays in Umbria, between Spoleto or the Trasimeno lake, I almost feel like at home in those places and cities).

Also, and I don't think it's just an Italian thing even if it might be more prominent due to orography, most cities and towns sit on hills where possible. Throwing stones down was easier than besieging uphill. 😅

It stands out quite. Here it's more castles on the hills. The majority of cities was subject to feudal system. Only large rich places like Cologne had a chance to fend off noble (and church) interest. I guess that makes it different a bit.
Also visited Lake Trasimeno. I believe there was a big battle for SPQR but we didnt see any of it. I tried for the piglets of Norcia hearing they are fed with truffles but it was high season anyway and they put it on the primi piatti too, so I was content.

When in Umbria, you'll find black truffles in your morning cappuccino too. 😆 (Though around Trasimeno, their specialty is lake fish of course...if you ever happen around those parts again and find yourself in a restarurant, aim for "tagliolini al persico" ;))

Some other bits of Tuscan countryside on the route between Florence and Siena:

While at Siena-Ampugnano I was planning a short hop from there to Trasimeno, when I did a 180° and aimed for the sunset, to see if I'd been able to reach Elba Island before dark:

And what a sunset that was.

@Old Duck - can confirm, Thor seems rather angry at that latest patch, having a thunderstorm amidst that light cloud clover was mildly unsettling as much as unwarranted.
