Newcomer / Intro Might get a bit boring

Well I have had ED for 24hrs now and I just hope there is going to be a lot more to it than what I have seen so far. Repetitive missions to earn credits to buy bigger/better ships and equipment? Is that it or am I missing something? Missions are: Go out and find, go out and kill, go out and fetch or take something to there. The docking and undocking is fun and using FSD is too but I guess once that has been done 300 times+ it will start to get tedious. I think this game will get very boring very soon IMHO which is a shame really.

Let's see: I see no mention of mining, trading, exploring, bounty hunting, military conflicts, etc. Missions are but a single element to this universe. There are lots of things to do.

That said, if you're looking for a sweeping space opera story, this isn't the right game. Still, I hope you give it a chance to grow on you--it truly is a lot of fun.

If you want to spice up your life, check out the Galnet news feed. Currently there are some escaped slaves who are kicking off in the empire systems. How you and other players interact with that event will determine what happens in the empire (as the emperor is sick and the possible successors gather for the final end-game.)

There's also a group of pilots who are trying to force a civil war in Lugh. Head over there and do missions for the independants and you may help tip the balance. Check out https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=71327

Yes you are correct I did not mention mining, trading I covered in the go out and fetch category, exploring in the go out and find, bounty hunting in the go out and kill and I guess I was lumping military conflicts in the go out and kill category too. Please don't misunderstand I am not "dissing" ED I just hope that there is going to be more too it than what I have seen so far.

ED is evolving with each new day as players shape the various conflicts that happen in the Universe, on down to what the developers continually add. Frontier did not hide the fact that the game was to be released on the 16th rain or shine. The game is simply too massive to have everything done right then and there. Give the game a good year and watch how it unfolds. For me personally Elite Dangerous is about telling your own story. I've had my own opera outside of static missions. Elite Dangerous is very much dynamic. But if you are playing it and looking at the game from linear standpoint, that is all that you will see and find. Good luck.

That's pretty much it, you got it figured out.

I had Elite since Beta 3.

For now that is Elite for you. There were some rumors about more stuff coming out on release, but it seems those were exaggerated. During the first half of 2015 we will get more coop mechanics, and after that I suppose we will get the first paid expansion (walking on ships, or on planets, that sort of stuff).

It does get a bit repetitive, but this is not a game you are looking to play for 10 hours on end as with the X games or Starsector or whatever. Short sessions do it for me, specially when going out for combat, which is lots of fun.

So OK, if we go to the core of nearly EVERY game in existence... They're all comprised of "Go Fetch", "Go Find", "Go Kill", "Buy Better Stuff to ("Go Fetch", "Go Find", "Go Kill")... rinse repeat.
The difference is there's no scripted story (for the moment). There will be more content added, politics, power struggles, faction wars... For the moment we create our own story and align ourselves with one or another faction. So when the #### starts hitting the space-fan, we have activities... blockades, assassinations, etc.

Last night I played 16 hours straight, with a couple of pauses to post on the forums (via second monitor).
I gave myself things to do and sent my goals... The day before that I went at it for 14 hours straight...
I don't find it repetitive at all.

Why thank you... likewise good man.

Well, we obviously have different inclinations. I can forget to eat while playing Dwarf Fortress, Kerbal Space Program or Minecraft (heck even Orbiter), so you could say I enjoy setting my own goals. I honestly don't know what it is. I still enjoy it nevertheless.

I love KSP... ;)

I agree with the OP... the first 24-72 hours of gameplay is all about tuning in, and it can feel boring.

I've just parked my T6 to get into and upgrade my Eagle so that I can go bounty hunting.

What will I do next? Get back into my Cobra and go exploring.

After that... trade to an Asp and repeat...

This isn't a game, it's a journey, an experience, savour and enjoy it!
