Mining Depletion

I'm not sure if this was suggested previously, but why not have Asteroids show some kind of signs that they have been mined out.
First thing that comes to mind as obvious, make asteroid blow up.
The other thing that could happen is simply just get deleted until re-spawned.
May be get a crack on the dang rock.
May be have a sign pop up or be placed by the player marking as depleted.
I don't know how hard it would be to implement, but it would be nice to know which one you mined. Since this is a space sim, I'm sure there would be some signs in real life when we start mining asteroids.

Thank you.

I always just keep heading towards the planet when mining. Makes so that i dont mine the same rock twice. Also a prospector limpet shows you the percentage of ore left inside the asteroid

Yeah, that's definitely one way to do it, but when you are looking for a specific mineral, you can't just head one particular direction and not run into the depleted asteroids.

I'm not sure what you are saying here. If you target the planet in your navigation panel and always fly toward the planet while mining asteroids in your way you will never come across a depleted asteroid.

Are you looking for a mineral for a mission? If so I suggest using prospector limpets so you know the contents before you even mine it. Ideally you also want to be in a system that has pristine reserves as the mineral content of each asteroid is much higher than in other reserve types.

Going in one direction is exactly what you need to do to avoid running into roids you've already depleted. Like Bazziegamer says, target the planet and keep heading in that general direction. I can mine over 100 roids in one mining trip and never encounter the same roid twice.

I find plotting a course towards the planet is always a good way of ensuring you’ll not encounter an asteroid you have already depleted. Either that or always set a heading against the rotation of the planet which ensures you don’t end up trying to mine in darkness.

until the entire asteroid has been broken apart.
Even the smallest roid in a ring is 100m diameter. So even a tiny ice roid is about 1 million tons. Most roids are much bigger than this. So even if you only ever mined the same roid all day, every day, you aren't going to make it go away.

I love the asteroids in the game, they look great. But it would be interesting in RES sites to have asteroid variants with a different PG look, with huge holes/ chunks missing to reflect the mining of ore deposits going on. Also possibly some different asteroid types, not sure what but use your imagination.

Here's another one.

Here are my mining stats from about 20 months.

To put this in perspective. If the 27,000 tons that I have mined was all one solid block of ice (the least dense thing we mine) it would be a 30m per side cube.
