Mining ship?

So, what's the best mining ship to use with all these new tools then?
I'm guessing a large ship wouldn't be good as you can't really maneuver around/inside the asteoids when you blow them open?

So a Python?

Depends on your prefered ship size, the Asp has a lot of hardpoints and is still rather manoeuvrable. Every ship with at least 4 hardpoints (and 1 medium sized) can equip all mining tools, smaller ships obviously will have to return sooner to port.

Large ships are perfect, am using the T-10. Learn thruster control, and switch off those silly computers.

I've made a t10 for it, seems that is a more viable use for it than killing thargoids as it sucked at that.

Has enough shields/hull to withstand explosive damage from close charges. Also has enough hard points for one or two of each.

Mine runs one of each class 2 displacement missile and seismic charge launcher. Two class one abrasion blasters.

For defence it has a 7a prismatic, 4 large multicannon turrets and a medium missile rack but might swap the seekers for another displacement or seismic.
6 shield boosters, heat sink launcher, chaff and pulse wave analyser.

1 8 cargo rack, two 5a collectors, 1a prospector, 4a refinery and the rest hull reinforcement.

Yes, its slow and overkill. Probably ditch a few hull for more cargo too.

Using my Krait Mk II. Works like a charm.

I did. My screen goes black. Now what?

For the full experience you'll want at least 4 hard points (not sure what sizes are required though) and a bunch of module slots.

Cobra IV
Krait Phantom (is it supposed to be that expensive?)
Krait MK II
Python
Type 7
and the bigger ships

Now, you hike up into the sierra nevadas, with a pan and a fine mesh screen. Find a remote stream, set up camp, shoot any claim jumpers who wander by (don't be fooled if they call themselves "hikers", they all call themselves that), and start mining.

Git to it, pirate ;)

Since I have just bought a Krait Phantom as my go to for travelling places spaceship, I no longer need the Asp for that role so have refitted the Asp to be my trying out mining spaceship.

Won't be as good as a Python probably is but Asp does a fairly good job at it, has enough hardpoints and internals for all the gear.

I used to mine in a type7 but I think the thruster's will be too weak ( not manoeuvrable enough) for this new system. Does the type 10 have good thrusters?

Just made 6m cr cracking two asteroids in a Cobra Mk3; first roid took a couple of minutes to find, the second was more elusive (about an hour all in all, but no grinding, just pure enjoyment).

Will try my T10 next but can't imagine that being more fun than the Cobra.

Type 7 has great thrusters, imo. Its main issue is going to be the lack of a class 2 hardpoint.

I have a Challenger that I've set up for deep-core mining that I'm really enjoying. With only an abrasion blaster and a seismic charge launcher, it has plenty of hardpoints left for defense. Only issue is the rather limited internals. That means you either skimp a bit on mining stuff or you don't get luxuries like fuel scoops and FSD boosters. I'm currently running mine without collector limpets. It's agile enough to pick things up manually without really being a problem, although it does slow me down so I might change that up. On the other hand though, no collectors and visually inspecting rocks for signs of fissures before prospecting really makes my limpets go a very long way.

I picked up a Krait MKII. I equipped it with 5C rated modules, including shield, except a 6C distributor and D rates life support and sensors. With all the mining tools and optional equipment and 136T cargo space, it was 48 million CR out the door. I plan to engineer the FSD for longer range. I haven't tried mining with it yet, but it should work out nicely. It's exclusively for mining, and maybe trading with swapping out modules for more cargo space.

A similarly equipped Python will cost you about 61 million CR.
