Miscalculation mockery

I've received several Inbox messages recently from mission givers, each saying something along the lines of: "We haven't provided you with enough units for the transaction you're delivering, please come back and get some more" and the offer of about 15,000–20,000Cr extra as a reward for doing so. But I've only been getting these messages in one place...

...when I'm half-way to bloody Hutton Orbital.

Seriously, FD? I've got a dozen or so cargo transactions worth between 500,000 and 4,000,000Cr each and this is the best a couple of mission givers can offer to want me to turn around and start the longest haul over again?

I wouldn't even turn back for 20,000Cr if the destination was only 100Ls away...

I think this "miscalculated" mission feature needs looking into and the reward offers being balanced depending on how far away you were and would need to repeat, making the reward highly incentive or not bothering at all. I can't think of any price less than doubling the original mission payment that would make me want restart a Hutton Orbital trip when I'm less than 30 minutes away, not only would it be a waste of my time, but the Ship Integrity costs a lot to repair when running to Hutton – over 350,000Cr for a Python down to 32% – being expected to pay twice for repairs after an offer of less than 20,000Cr is just ridiculous, since the bonus is going to be eaten up just to repair Integrity from the first incomplete trip. The feature is worthless when offered during long deliveries, because it ultimately has a negative effect on a Commander's finances.

It's almost like they want to take the pizz out of us for having to grind!

Cheers.

Hello, Mr British. :)

Ah ha ha! I always knew Frontier had an evil sense of humour. :D

If this mission-wrinkle - one I've never seen - is only activating when you're halfway to Hutton, that suggests it's on a very long timer - something that seems relatively unlikely to happen by accident, except and unless there's another borked clock in the game (always possible).

This is very possibly an emphatic reply to everyone complaining about the Hutton Run - they're not only not going to shorten it, they're going to give us the option of making it even longer, in return for absolutely nothing except a larger repair bill. Perhaps it gives better rep and inf... but, probably not.

I think I'm going to have to visit Hutton again. I didn't think I'd ever be finding a use for that sentence - which only goes to show, you should never throw anything away. :)

Hi. I actually don't mind the Hutton Run. It's just a matter of finding a neighbouring system, loading up with cargo missions and data missions from open/solo until cargo/transactions is maxed out, jump to Alpha Centauri, check for immediate interdiction threats, aim for Hutton, Alt-Tab out of ED, set ED to 50% volume and watch a film or some TV episodes, then go back an 1h 30m later, dock and collect big. I get about 15–20M Cr per run with a Python and 218 cargo capacity. Effortless work and with a bigger the ship/cargo more high value cargo missions can be taken and more earned per run. I've done it about 5 times this week and probably made more than doing dozens of short distance small value runs. What I object to are silly mission givers saying "come back, you are 2 units short" for a 20,00Cr bonus when I'm only 5 minutes away from Hutton... it's just a waste of the game's potential and makes the developers look stupid for coding in such a feature that is bound to be ignored by 99.9% of players. The grind, I don't mind... obnoxious elements or unnecessary features that spoil the experience, I do...

Cheers.
