News Mission Board Stress Testing - 2.4 beta

hey guys just made a new commander for beta, in start system mission board kept crashing, this was maybe 20-30min before servers went down

Hey there, i wasnt aware that the mission board had a re-do... well looking good!

Just one minor thing...

I had an assassination mission as a follow-on that for some reason happened twice!

I mean what are the odds of the mission giver asked me twice to kill the same guy in the same sys with the same ship :p

when i mean twice i mean that i finished the first follow on, then a while after it showed up on the missions tab again! then i did it again :)

Greetings Commanders,

As part of 2.4 we’ve improved missions in a few ways, including upping the variety and selection of missions on the mission board. You can see the full changelog here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ed-Beta-available-to-download-now-(changelog) (look under Missions to see all the changes that have been made)

During the beta we will be stress testing the mission board system, specifically looking at how many missions we can populate the missions board with. We’ll be looking to find the optimal number of missions for both gameplay and performance.

As a result of this you will find you’re able to accept a significantly larger number of missions are offered to you than usual. This is all part of stress testing the system, and will most likely not be indicative of what will be available on the mission board at launch.

Previously the mission board was sent from the mission server as one single message, meaning that some mission boards simply wouldn’t be populated if the message wasn’t fully received by the client within a period of time. In 2.4 each mission is sent to the board individually, meaning it is able to populate one by one even if the complete list cannot be downloaded. If the list is fully received as intended then it will be displayed on the board immediately. If this is not the case, and it takes longer than 30 seconds, it will let you know a partial list has been received and you’ll see that displayed on the mission board. This is the reason we want to stress test and find the optimal number. The testing will help reduce the number of Commanders with partially completed mission boards, the ultimate aim is to have larger mission boards with a higher variety of missions available for 2.4.

Are the missions always generated in real time when requested? Is there no caching involved? This seems like a prime candidate for some caching mechanics that generate and store mission data during slower times to dip into during peak times for more missions availability.

Ok, So As usual with the beta the first thing I do is reset my save and start a fresh commander. This is to see what a new start would see.

In Trevithick dock, the LHS3447 Academy for Noviate Pilots (one of the new starter helpers) is offering 4 courier missions to Colonia  Now these missions are obviously paying much more than the other ones.
My question here is it really fair to a complete new starter to the game to see such missions from the first mission giver they look at?

On a separate point, they are only giving 24 hours to do them  whilst a similar distance passenger mission gives 4 weeks (I know there's a return leg, but still).

And one final point. The passenger missions are still paying out the big Credits for short haul transfers, so a nerf on only the transport missions is unbalanced.

Thanks Dale,

Could you not have made use of some of the code I downloaded for the closed beta for the open? I am wasting my time downloading full content again and on a slow ISP it's not a lot of fun!

Distance to port is good higher reward missions for higher ranks been displayed is good give low level players an incentive to level up

Would be worth FD sifting through the Beta CTD reports - I've been having lots when attempting to open Inbox messages related to chained missions. Difficult to raise as bugs, as they are random ...

And from the number of missions to Colonia it seems you really want me to take a trip ;)

Passenger mission choice in Pratchett's Disc is very restricted, apart from the sightseeing trips, everyone wants to go to Colonia instead of the much closer and much more BGS-relevant bubble :( They're also with a very tight time limit of a bit over 4 days.

Despite these changes, I am still seeing the same problem as I've seen since 2.3:
There are almost NO planetary surface missions, EXCEPT for Delivery mission. I have documented the problem in more detail here:
Severe lack of planetary surface missions (except for Delivery missions)

i've read your topic.
from what i have seen, you have not yet found the right combination of parameters that make your desired type of mission spawn.

i am not sure, but there are more factors then "state" alone.
station type, minor factions goverment type and are there too.

and tbh, it would be nice of FDEV telling us at least a bit bout HOW to find things...

NOW THAT'S IMPRESSIVE!

Mission Board Speed was great on Beta.

Tho there's something lacking. I wish there was a way to Highlight Missions in the Missionboard which have Materials as Reward for the Receipees you have Pinned from the Engineers. With even more Missions going thru all of them just to check for that Firmware or whatever you need is a bit of a hassle.

Or even better make a Filter where we can select Materials and filter the Board for Missions which include set Materials.

Cheers!
