Mode switching hell...

It's Switch HUD mode, which I imagine is under the Modes section in Controls.

This.

In beta I had it on something "easy" to operate from the HOTAS. But it was too easy and in the frenzy of PvP combat button mashing I kept on activating it.

Now I have it totally out of the way on the base of the stick. Keyboard you be good too as it is not really needed in a hurry.

No it's not. I have bound the same key to enter/exit FSS but found exiting does not truly exit mode b/c I submitted to an interdiction, deployed my HPs but they won't fire.

Apparently, there is another key that needs to be bound but haven't found it yet.

Yes it is.

People should really pay attention to patch note and what they are doing.

First :
Quality of Life

  • Display a notification icon to indicate new bindings are available to the player

So, here's what we have :
- 2 different cockpit mode : combat mode and analysis mode (the new blue one)
These cockpit modes can be switched in normal space and SC

- 2 new supercruise exploration features : FSS and DSS (see 3.3 patch note)

So yeah, switching between analysis and combat mode is on a single bind. The OP was in normal space after the interdiction and in analysis mode making the100thmonkey 100% correct.

FYI about FSS, the same bind can be set to "enter FSS" and "leave FSS"

Plus you can also bind the Exit DSS to the exact same key as your Enter/Exit FSS as well. That way to exit either DSS or FSS, it's the same key and less confusing. Exiting DSS this way doesn't put you into FSS, it just puts you back into cockpit mode as you want...

The update corupted most player's controler and hotas configurations, thus most will have to reconfigure any and all previous reconfigurations. Choose basic and then try it without any reconfiguration, if and when you want to change something, go to the controler menu and it will state that your basic has been changed. DO NOT CHANGE IT. If you do, it will simply reset it. Simply scroll down to what ever you want changed and do it.

One litterally doesn't need a keyboard or a mouse any more. If one choose's the basic will find that they will only have to alter a few of the preset configs.

I use a hotas on my xbox one x, even though the configuation where almost exactly the same as before the update, becasue they added some new bindings, they conflicted with my previous ones. Thus I simply started a new one by choosing the basic hotas setup, trying it out, and after an hour or so, only had to reconfigure 4 of them to my likeing. Where as my previous configs numbered almost a dozen.

Not working...
I've even re-mapped "exit FSS" to another button and tried that, still can't use weapons
FSS mode is not analysis mode.

FSS mode is not analysis mode.

this may be the problem i was having that i had to quit to main menu to get out. not a combat situation; i was trying to figure how to work the FSS, and then how to fire probes. i kept using the controller button (i know, xbox one controller on pc so what?) and i wound up with hug turning red but the controller disable entirely except for the button that opens the game menu to get to options, quit to menu or desktop.

the other gripe i have is, that when i log back in game, the hud has gone back to combat mode - it wont remember the mode you were in. if thats a workaround for the bug OP seems to have or my bug or if they are same bug, that makes some sense. but im 10000 ly plus from the bubble, 5000ly from the nearest inhabited system, and in an asp ex with ZERO weapons. i dont NEED a combat mode since i cant do anything in it. it bugs me that i have to remember first thing to do on log in is go into analysis mode and prepare to jump.

another way this control bug hit me was, i kept seeing a prompt top right saying open FSS to analyse using [O] after a honk. if i press any key, the controller no longer controls the ship and the ONLY way to make it work again is quit to main menu and log back in to the game.

I use an Xbox controller, default context is a pretty good setup. Y+Up for HUD toggle.

The FSS toggle and the HUD UI toggle are not the same thing. FSS is in the it's own dedicated section, while the HUD UI switch (combat/analysis) can be found in the mode switching section of the options.

I don't understand why switching modes is a separate button when certain things only work in one mode or the other. Each Fire Group should have a selected Mode associated with it. If you select the fire group with your discovery scanner, it switches to scanner mode, when you select the fire group with your weapons, is should automatically switch to Combat Mode. Or at least have an option in the Fire Group screen to pick the preferred mode for each Fire Group you create.

This way, you won't get stuck in a mode where your fire buttons don't work.

From what I've heard in another forum, someone did say that each mode can have their own Fire Groups. It's just not done automatically. I can't try it as I'm still way out in the middle of nowhere, but the person claimed putting weapons in Fire Group A for Combat mode and then Scanners in Fire Group A in Analysis mode worked and when you switched modes, your Fire Group did too.

Worth a try to see if it is true. I have no weapons on my exploration ship, but suppose I could try it with the Composite Scanner (or what ever it is, not near my home PC right now) and just see if it works...
