Newcomer / Intro More broken Combat missions?

I took a mission from Empire Law Party or something like that to kill 2 bounty hunters in what I ascertained was an anarchy system.

All well and good.

on the second USS I got an "update" inviting me to kill pirates in the Mara system instead.

Since then I have dropped in on quite a few USS and SSS and killed maybe 8 or so ships with K-Warrant Scanners (these are usually bh's ) in Ships such as Vipers and FDLs

My mission target though is still at 2 after 3 hours of searching.

I remember if you got an " alternate target update" on an assassination mission before you got the "location update" then the mission can become bugged - is this same bug rearing it's head in this type of mission too?

. Bounty hunter kill missions are a nightmare.......only take kill pirate missions.... They scan you and are wanted ....very straight forward.....

Been here and got just as annoyed!

Managed to kill 4 out of 5 pirates and then was intercepted by NPC blogs and told I would be rewarded if I abandoned my killing spree.........
I carried on hunting down pirates but my "pirates killed counter" never increased - I eventually gave up - sought out the space station that the "stop killing us" guy directed me to and collected the "thanks for not killing us" mission abandonment fee.
Which was a fraction of the original BH fee that I was promised but hey ho - better than nought.

Some of these missions appear to be complete red herrings from what I can tell.

pirate kills are only counted if

a) he scans you first for cargo

b) Hails you with one of the tradition stupid NPC Pirate messages

or

c) both

simply getting trigger happy and blasting a ship scanned as "wanted" won't work.

Yep I noticed afterwards,........ I think that mission was rigged for me to be unable to find the full quota of pirates and then be given the alternative mission

I was after BH kills though not Pirate kills, but still good to know that in general this type of mission can be buggy. Done Pirate Kill missions without any trouble.
