Mouse controls uplayable.

That's one seriously patient troll, if you're right...

With that type of a date, he did not join due to ED, but for a different game. So no reason he could not be trolling. The fact that he completely ignores peoples help and suggestions, then uses his misunderstanding of the law as a means to attack Frontier...

The fact that he has received the product and that public opinion is that it is functional means it satisfies the "Sales of Goods Act" that companies have to satisfy in the UK (or to be sold to UK costumers).

If he has payed for the SB, or release then he could ask for a refund, until such a time as they become available.

This is of course assuming that he is not completely trolling and does in fact even own a copy of the game.

Now to the OP:

Yaw is weaker than Roll for game play reasons. Mouse control is not finalized and is still being worked on, but don't expect major changes than current implementation. Give the game more of a chance, many people have a very hard time getting past scenario 2 and 3, but learning to control your ship and how to fly is part of the fun (at least it is for me).

I played for a few minutes, and it was unplayable for me as well.

FD is currently throwing KBM users in the deep end of the pool with not even a hint on how to make the game playable. I know it's beta and all, but this has to be fixed come launch with a proper tutorial, or at least some workable default settings. War Thunder was perfectly playable with KBM out of the box, for example.

I'll try the suggestions in this thread, thanks for them!

Oh, and is there a way to reverse pitch for freelook? I play reversed pitch (mouse down for nose up) from my flight sim and X-Wing days in all games, but when I enable freelook, the mouse switches to non-reversed, which is confusing and counter-intuitive.

loving the mouse and keyboard

At first it feels a little strange BUT... Just give it a chance and you will prefer the mouse and keyboard

i just made this quick video of a station to station dispatch - jump - dock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wpcgh_N6XC8

having all the buttons next to me on the keyboard and as im using a razer naga 2014 mouse with 12 thumb buttons i find it perfect for me - i was trying to play it with a xbox joypad at first as i thought the mouse was too hard; but since you have to still use the keyboard i gave up and now im really at home using the mouse and keyboard

So all i can say is stick with it and you will get the hang of it

Wait, you can play with a controller? Does PS3/4 controller work?

If the game is good, I'll get a joystick, but in the meantime I'll make do with what I have.

It's not that bad with mouse & keyboard - just takes a bit of practice! I remember when I first started flying helicopters in BF1942 mods I was all over the shop, but within a month or two I was flying upside down under bridges and all sorts of wacky stunts. Stick with it!

PS4 controller works off the bat, you'll just have to map the buttons.

PS3 controller doesn't, although there's some unofficial drivers floating about, maiking them useable.

I'd go for the PS4 one, the PS3 drivers have a reputation of messing up your PC.

Bit miffed - waited over a decade for this, I paid the better part of 100 quid, download the game today and the mouse controls are basically unplayable.

It seems like no matter what settings I pick, I am either moving (yaw) incredibly incredibly slowly, or its so super-sensitive & skippy and jumpy that I cant get the reticle on target because it is all over the place even if I move the mouse the tiniest amount.

I have tried flight assist on vs off (I was unable to tell the difference), and I have tried flying in the blue zone but the yaw is still incredibly slow. I am not going to buy a joystick or a controller either. I have fiddled around with the (multiple) sensitivity and deadzone sliders about 200 times but its not really working in any combination.

Unplayable.

Anyone know who I can contact about getting a refund? :(

You can't tell the difference between Flight Assist on/off? Are we playing the same game?

I dislike mouse/keyboard controls, but in my opinion, it's perfectly playable with mouse/keyboard. It takes a while to get used to, but it's highly doable.

Thanks, I'll give my DS4 a go!

He may have Flight Assist on 'hold' mode...meaning to turn it off, you need to keep the key pressed, and as soon as you release flight assist comes back on.

If that is the case Matt, it can be change in the settings menu to Toggle.

I read this post and was immediately reminded of these 2 threads

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20628

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20640

The op in those 2 threads pretty much had the same issue as a mouse user and yaw being so slow. They asked about getting a refund.

The point? After hearing some of the feedback and advice from the community they decided to stick with it and learn the control scheme, try some mouse config advice received from the community, and learn how to play the game and cancelled their refund request (I just hope that they are still around somewhere).

You can't learn elite in a day. And mouse is a virtual joystick, not first person shooter flight mode. The devs chose to nerf yaw speeds and favour pitch/roll scheme for the combat mechanics it generates - which is great fun. Try it, you might like it.

Matt - I hope you are serious about this game, take some advice about improving control setup from M+K users and also decide to actual take some time to get used to the game. It certainly is rather playable and rewarding once it clicks.

Is he trolling us?:S
I mean people are trying to help him and he's just completely oblivious.

Troll.

Waited for years, paid 150$ for premium beta of a game that will retail for 50$, but wont buy a controller or Joystick, ignores people trying to help and starts talking about law.

Yeah right I totally believe that.

Hi Matt,

I use mouse. Back when I played the original Elite we had pitch and roll (exclusively?). I'd roll to line up then pitch.

When I first tried the mouse I was miffed as well. It was skittish and jumpy.
Now I use Absolute Pitch/Roll (a friend of mine uses Absolute Pitch/Yaw) and I put the yaw controls on A & D keys (I use a keypad but same keys).

Once I lowered the sensitivity down and the deadzone down I found it to be MUCH better. I'd recommend trying it before you chuck it out the window?
I recommend Absolute Pitch/Roll with the MOUSESENSITIVITY set right under the "L in Absolute and the MOUSEDEADZONE under the "S" in absolute.
Play with it and see where you feel it's best at.

Whatever you do, play around and figure out a setup YOU like! :)

Added: Not everyone prefers a stick. Or being called a troll. Frustration tends to make people a little crazy (something we've never seen around here .../sarcasm off)

Someone isn't a troll just because you disagree with them.

Although it is rather strange to anticipate a game for 10 years, but learn apparently nothing about it during its rather well documented development... not to mention dismiss it out of hand after playing for what? Minutes? Hours?

Give it a chance OP. The flight model, despite some people's misgivings, actually works really well.

Mouse controls are pretty challenging right now, but they're doable. No one said you wouldn't need to practice.

A few minutes? You make a judgment after a few minutes?

FD is currently throwing KBM users in the deep end of the pool with not even a hint on how to make the game playable.

How can anyone take anything you seriously when you make such statements?

I am a keyboard and mouse player and the game is very playable. You refer to War Thunder's mouse control where your plane plays "chase the cursor." Chase the cursor mechanics ruins the control system for joystick users because it is much easier to move the cursor over something and wait for the plane to catch up and it is the very reason that keyboard and mouse users have a huge advantage over joystick users in War Thunder Arcade mode.

I am thankful that the developers did not go that route with Elite: Dangerous.

You may not be used to it but the keyboard and mouse control implemtation for Elite: Dangerous in the Beta is excellent and it works very well.

The sad thing is that when a vocal minority complain after testing it for "a few minutes" it makes it appear to people who have not played the game yet that there is a problem where there actually is none and that is a real shame.

First, you won't get sympathy with trashing unfinished game in early testing phase and asking for refund (can you get it or can't - I am not lawyer).

Second, you don't get my sympathy for trashing mouse and keyboard controls either. I play with k/m from day one. Enjoying like a champ. It takes some times and skill to use to, but they are totally playable.

And yeah, yawn is nerfed, because they want us to use roll/pitch, just like old days. And I am cool with that, although I am more of Frontier: Elite 2 guy.

So let me get this stright - guy who advocates for pure PvP can't handle keyboard/mouse in ED? :)

Wait....I need to enjoy this moment....for a little bit.
