Mr. Brookes please confirm this lore change.

It is a digression as I am more interested in what changed from Elite to ED in terms of lore (as in what can we throw out as ED has been rebooted it seems like) but what player faction are you referring to ? TIIQ ? I don't know many large groups so I would be interested to learn more.

TIIQ are The Imperial Inquisition, DJTruthSayer is one of the found members of this group.

That's one of the unofficial points of contact that have occurred.

Hello Michael,

You may think I overreacted in my earlier post, but honestly when I read this thread, heard the excerpt from the TIIQ stream and read Drew's page, that's how I felt.

Anyhow, your replies to the questions from others are missing the point - there's a big rumour going round that you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater, maybe you could tell us what's really going on? What have we all misunderstood up to this point? What elements of literature/gameplay from previous Elite/Frontier games are you erasing from the history books? What's the new "truth"? Why are a teeny tiny part of the ED community (TIIQ) becoming your outlet for information about the backstory? Why do other people you've previously worked closely with on ED storyline now seem to have become disillusioned with that you're doing?

Remember, we don't want to know plot spoilers, we don't want to know future storylines, we only want to know what the "true" backstory is. Maybe you don't want to share with us, maybe you think it won't come across well, yet I'm sure we'd all appreciate some honesty on this subject and we'll react better than if you just avoid the subject. If you don't want to reply on the forums then maybe a livestream would be a better medium to use.

I hope you agree with me and give us a comprehensive reply.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Lore is big part of the game to many players outside of TIIQ and it holds the game together for many of us. This is what grasped me about Elite - the lore. The richness of the world, the believeable story that I was able to be part of across 2 games (I didn't play the original Elite... no BBC Micros in Poland back in a day!) and now I'm unsure what has actually happened in the past. Please consider creating an Elite Timeline, not what's in the Gazetteer, but something along the lines of Milky Way Chronicles >> http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Chronicles_of_the_Milky_Way

I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by a large part of the community :)

Going to be honest, I'm confused. Yes I know it doesn't take much but there's a few things going on and none of it really makes much sense to me. Can we have an official line on the lore changes rather than hearing bits from streamers (that not everyone watches or wants to watch), bits from Lave Radio, and bits from here and there. There's a lot of speculation and bits of information, it would be good to tie it all together properly.

It kind of feels like when George Lucas started to (coughs) "Remaster" Star Wars. We all know Han shot first...

Oh boy I hope it doesn't come to that! All earlier versions of Elite, copies of the Dark Wheel, etc will be mercilessly hunted down and destroyed! (trying to find one of the original releases of the star wars films is like finding hen's teeth).

Er, I hope this development isn't also related.

I realise there are many parallel threads on the forums and reddit about this subject. Lots of noise in different places.

There was another ending where the player is instead given a more potent version of the mycoid virus by INRA and delivers this to the Thargoids instead of a vaccine, meaning no Thargoid ship was gifted to humanity and no exchanges of scientific data occurred. The announcement was that this is the actual history of events for Elite: Dangerous.
I investigated this and this alternative ending isn't even available to the player, it only exists as "broken" missions in the EXE file. I used quotes around "broken" because in one of the original releases of FFE some of these missions were actually accessible, but in later bug fixed versions they were not. Since bugs were fixed, and these missions were not made available (in fact were fully removeD), I think it's totally reasonable for us to assume that David Braben decided to remove this storyline. To later decide that bugs in a previous game are now established history is quite incredible, and makes me wonder if in ED v10.0 we'll be told that the super-engineered weapons (e.g. pulse-laser/railgun hybrids) we saw in early 2.1 weren't a bug, they were in fact a plot element.

You can have my copy of The Dark Wheel when you pry it out of my cold dead hands!

I'm not too upset that what most of us thought the preceded ending of FFE is Not the one that led to our current galaxy. That's fine. What it does though is call into question everything else we thought we knew. Some official history that we can use as a scaffold to build our ongoing adventures is absolutely needed.

I think one thing you all need to keep in mind is that as far as I understood it, the assumption about which ending of the old FFE game was the "real" ending that really happened was made by the community. FD had never previously commented on which one of those endings was the true lore one.

Therefore this is not a "change of lore" as mentioned in the thread title - it's an answer to the question of which one really happened.

We (the community) assumed that a different ending was the lore one and then based a lot of other stuff around that.
The community never assumed anything, players were unable to access the alternative ending.

Edit - I see the Jaiotu already made this point. When I first read this thread I was in shock, please excuse me!

If it's what it sounds like - wiping out almost his entire lore section - then that's reaching horrific levels for me.

I'm at risk of posting something sounding really quite angry - but they can consider that level of change the point where a lifetime fan starts sidling over towards the "what the hell is going on in FDev" camp

I'm not a lifetime fan, I became a player and a fan of E: D back when Premium Beta was a thing. I read so much about the history of the Elite universe and it really fascinated me. To now find out that all of that isn't considered the canon of E: D is...confusing to say the least. Disappointing as well, because I may have overlooked it in the past, but I can't remember FDev saying anything along the lines of "The old lore is not the E: D lore". I don't know where we're at, in terms of history that is. Is there a history, if so, what is it?

Be that as it might be. Wont argue about semantics here, because thats pretty useless.

My point still stands. It would be way more interesting to work TOGETHER with the thargoids against an even more alien Invasion than to have the same old thargoids as enemies again.

I'd like to think Thargoids may be a bit more complex - with their own factions and powers - some tolerant of us, others not...

That would work for me, also. Anything but the same old boring "they are aliens, shoot to kill" if you know what i mean.

Totally agree. Same for other races - whether it means finding small pockets of sympathetic aliens in an all out war, or a "anti-human" faction in a generally friendly race.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. THEY MUST BURN!

No seriously, I would appreciate it if we get peaceful Thargoids, too. :D I'm sure their ships are awesome :D

Question. Are more Elite novels going to be released? I submitted a request for information regarding licensing but heard nothing back. I'm a reasonably well published author and I'd love to write an official novel (hell, I already had, that's why I had contacted licensing)

Could someone translate this for me please ?

I haven't read TJames' book and I don't know what Michael is on about.

no spoilers. he speaks of a fact occurred only with the character and those around you, not affecting the authorities in general, making the obscure fact to the general public.

(for the record I warned you, I said in my pirate radio that FD was lying).

TLDR

OP:If thats the case we would never see Thargoids as the mycoid would be damaging their ship still and as this is ED and we cant raid INRA bases we wouldnt be able to get them the vaccine ;)

Also if this is set AFTER FFE where the bloody heck is all the ships gone ?
